Who will be the best rushing team in a pass happy Big 12?

I have high hopes for our new offense and hope it's not just lip service about running the ball.
 
The potential is there but will Hawkins committ to a running offense over the long haul this season.

this. it ought to be us....but OU, OSU, and maybe Baylor are in the mix.

outside DS and not enough bank jobs and taking the higher ground (rolleyes), why is that Texas can't get any kind of feature back the last few years? that confuses me. supposedly, they are in on two studs for next year....but, Benson was about as overrated a college player as i can remember...padded his stats against Baylor and Rice but did exactly squat in big games.

after Peterson, OU's pulled a couple Texas RB studs since...and even ATM won out for Goodson (talk about a wasted career, him and Martellus Bennett....way to go Fran) and the Christian kid last year. even OSU has had better backs from the GSOT than UT the last 2-3 years.

We were 11th in the Big12 in rushing yards last year.
We were 11th in the Big12 in yards per carry last year.
We were 10th in the Big12 in rushing yards per game last year.

Yes, we're healthier. Yes, Hawkins says we're going to be a better rushing team. But that alone is enough for a jump from #11 out of 12 teams to #1?

Stretch.
 
Kendall Hunter may be the Big 12's leading rusher this year. OU may have the best 1-2 in the conference though with Brown and Murray. Jermie Calhoun, who knows what he'll do as a freshman for them. Mizzou has an outside shot at the league lead with Derrick Washington starting, though without Chase Daniel and Jeremy Maclin to keep defenses honest he could be in for some disappointment. Texas, if all of their top receivers stay eligible and healthy, will not abandon their pass-first playbook and McCoy may be their leading rusher again. And as high as their fans may be on 2010 RB Lache Seastrunk, he's probably going to Auburn but definitely hasn't given UT much attention. Texas likes recruits who are all in with the program from the time they start recruiting them, so the fact that they're still on this guy shows just what a freak he is. Won't deliver though.

CU has four guys who could team for the best rushing attack, but with the 2008 injuries that kept the group from performing exceptionally, all we have to go on is potential.

It's college football, a lot happens in a year.

1. We are running out of a more rushing friendly system this year, a lot less shotgun and more I formation.

2.We have one of the most talented backfields in the confrence if not the country.

3. We have a HUGE and talented O-line.

All that spells very likely to be a night and day difference in our rushing attack.

Different formations doesn't necessarily mean more success. We can only hope, but if it was as simply as that, we wouldn't have been the 11th best rushing team in the Big12 last year.

Based on what? If we base it upon PRODUCTION, we're no higher than 2nd or 3rd in the Big12 North, let alone the COUNTRY! Based on recruiting stars? Then you'd in have a better argument.

Huge means nothing. Talented? The POTENTIAL is there, but have we SEEN it? No. We have seen it at several other schools in the conference though.

Look, I'm all for saying our rushing attack will be improved, because frankly it will be. However, to say it will go from 2nd to last to FIRST?!?!? Based on POTENTIAL?

That's a huge, huge step.

We will see, but I'm not in the minority here. Phile Steele, who is the most accurate college football writer, and studies the game of college football 365 days a year, also picks both our line and backs as one of the best in the country.
 
There is one coach in the B12 that is clearly a run-first coach, Snyder. KSU was 3rd in the conference this year with less offensive talent than perhaps anyone. Snyder will continue to work towards a run oriented attack, and he will get good at it.
