That's the smokestack.

The boiler unit that was used to heat all of the radiators on campus was located there. That smoke stack was from the campus boiler.

no info here from the source. the one of Old Main (before the current stone-masonry bridge...date?) and Mackey are both nice. but, also, no way to know if all the drawings are contemporary with one another.
