2010 is gonna be good

Let me start by saying I am drunk, and I use lots of parenthesis when drunk, also no paragraphs and bad grammar (probably, never really double checked) .... anyways

Don't really know why I am saying this except maybe the drunkeness. I thought we shoulda fired Hawk (still do) but maybe it's the new year, IDK, but I really think 2010 is a great year for CU football (and bball 2010-2011). I just have a gut feeling we will surprise lots of people this year and have a good year (by good year I mean 8ish wins). First off, at this point I am as anti-Hawkins as it gets on this board but for the people who bash his recruiting (up to this year) I don't get that, I understand bashing is coaching (playcalling, substitutions, practice, etc., but I think he has brought in some nice talent... with that in mind I think we have too much talent to fail this year (yeah you can say Hawk doesn't play talent, etc. but there is just too much pressure on him not to), add Clemons on offense to go along with Scotty and Simas at WR that is a damn dangerous group and I know Simmons can contribute A LOT too if he gets the chance. Sucks that Scott left (good for him) but at RB I think we have a lot of talent/experience, Sumler is a great blocker (shouldn't have played over Scott because of that but...) and imo is not a bad RB, plus he has experience. RS is the real deal, He is a poor mans (at least as a FR/SO) Sproles/Griffith and will put fear in many DC's lives. Hansen will improve and is still young, lots of upside. No offense meant but wish we had more at QB, nevertheless, he is a rushing threat always... and has shown flashes throwing the ball, a lot depends on how much he improves but I feel the improvements/experience gained around him will do wonders for him. Then we get to the OL... lots of potential and lots of experience, the whole offense depends on this group imo. They should be great (as they shoulda been this year despite the youth), I guess i'll just take the 2010 optimism I have and believe that with a year of experience and being coached by a new coach (I think this makes more of a difference than people believe, DJ may not be a bad coach... just the different philosophies between him and Grimes may have equaled a major learning curve) may equal huge improvements. On defense I think it all depends on if Jimmy comes back (haven't heard if he is or not), if he does I think we have a solid defense. DL we have lots of talent and experience in Cunningham, Bonsu, Obi, West, Herrod (he is back right?), Kasa, Pericak, and Hartigan. But I feel there is legitimit (sp?) reason to believe we will be something other than awful next year, 6-6 is the worst case scenario cause Hawk WILL be back with that record :afraid:. If less than 8 wins, I honestly hope it's 0 cause that will ensure he is gone, but as a CU die-hard I will hope he wins 8 and all this negativity changes... why are there no positive smillies on the quick reply? In 2010, I'll appreciate CU football for what it is: Entertainment. It's not worth getting emotionally involved in something you have no control over. It just isn't (Wish I learned this lesson before 2009).

I wish I could turn it off that easily. I've been emotionally invested in this program since I was 6 years old. I can't just say "I don't care", although I wish I could. I really wish I didn't care as much as I do. It would make life a lot easier.

...I am with Sacky here. I will expect three wins and will not be pleasantly surprised if we get six. Even with my low expectations, six is not good enough. If we hit eight wins, I will be happier with Hawk, but the way he has treated the fans the past year without producing a winning season, I'm not sure I can ever fully support the guy.

One must skim for the important parts, that's all there is to it.

My take... the schedule lines up favorably for at least 6 wins. Another positive this year compared to last, it seems CU has found their quarterback, something that couldn't be said last fall... is Hansen an absolute stud at QB? No, but he is a solid player that can get it done and can make plays with his legs. The O-line improved as well near the end of the season... the WR group should be better... basically the passing game should be much improved. CU's big problem as far as offense goes will be running the ball. Speedy is a decent back, not good but average, and I don't really see any other great talent in the backfield. If CU can establish a running game next season then the offense should be in great shape, but they are going to need somebody to carry the ball, and I don't see Speedy as being the guy to get them there.

As far as defense, the young DL looked good, the secondary looks to be solid again if Smith returns. LB is the question mark there, and if one or two guys step up then I think they will be just fine.

Special teams... not so great.

In finishing, I see potential for at least 6 wins... anything less should be a disappointment, but of course you never know what you will get with Hawk.

California, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska = Road games = no chance

I guess an argument can be made that Tech is going to come down since Leach is gone. Their hire will have a big impact on that. I anticipate that Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas State will all be BETTER in 2010 than they were in 2009, based on length of time of new coaches, return of key players from injury, etc.

I appreciate the time you took to make that post, but this statement really stood out. The 2009 schedule was tailor-made for a bowl season and we all saw how that turned out.

As far as the offense, we will not be running the ball much because we are going to be a passing team. Not sure it will turn out any better than any of the other offensive experiments of the last four years, but I just do not see much of a running game.

CSU, Hawaii, Baylor... I agree that ISU and KSU might be better, but so should CU, and to be honest those programs are weak and those are winnable games, I also see a win over a Kansas team that loses its playmakers, Missouri is beatable as well. If Nebraska's offense doesn't improve that is also a winnable game (the reason they won this past season was special teams issues for CU). Cal could be a toss up depending on which Cal team shows up, oh and they will lose Jahvid Best. Tech could also be a toss up.

My point is the vast majority of the games on the schedule are winnable. There isn't any absolute powerhouse team that CU will have no chance against, they should be in every game this next season.

As far as the offense, we will not be running the ball much because we are going to be a passing team. Not sure it will turn out any better than any of the other offensive experiments of the last four years, but I just do not see much of a running game.

Aside from Tyler Hansen / Hawkins Jr. running for his life behind a terrible OL, I agree with you.

CSU, Hawaii, Baylor... I agree that ISU and KSU might be better, but so should CU, and to be honest those programs are weak and those are winnable games, I also see a win over a Kansas team that loses its playmakers, Missouri is beatable as well. If Nebraska's offense doesn't improve that is also a winnable game (the reason they won this past season was special teams issues for CU). Cal could be a toss up depending on which Cal team shows up, oh and they will lose Jahvid Best. Tech could also be a toss up.

My point is the vast majority of the games on the schedule are winnable. There isn't any absolute powerhouse team that CU will have no chance against, they should be in every game this next season.

You do realize that Hawkins has only won TWO road games in the 4 years he has been in Boulder, right?

I will agree that there aren't any teams (other than Oklahoma) who will be large favorites, but the fact remains that CU will be the underdog in almost every game they play this year.

I am not sure exactly what it is about CU's team that you anticipate will be "better" in 2010. I do not see a single position on this team where I think the mere passage of time from one season to the next is going to somehow improve the quality of the team. Unless there are some truly awesome redshirt freshmen who are going to become major contributors on the team - there just isn't anything different from 2009 to warrant any heightened expectations. If anything, the loss of one of the better defensive coaches, and the retention of the Boise triad (Collins, Brandison, and Riddle) is enough for me to know this team is going to be a giant cluster**** again in 2010.

Two things to keep in mind regarding the Kansas game..

Hawk is 0-6 against 1st year HCs in the Big XII and he also hasn't won a road game in 2 years.
