At some point, I wouldn't be surprised to see if UT tried to sign a TV deal with a Fox affilliate that could possibly include aTm, BU, & tech. Man! the landscape of the B-12 seams to change every day.

It wasn't that long ago that UT was just another school that had a football team. Doing this would be the biggest mistake they could ever make. I really hope they do it. The spectacular crash and burn would be entertaining.

I don't think UT's national appeal is anywhere near what Texans think it is. I mean, they are a top 5-10 type program over the last decade but fans in the NE or on the West Coast or in the Chicago area aren't going to stop watching their local conference/team to watch Texas.
and if it's just a UT for Texans network, they are back in the confining regionalism that the SWC gave them. Note to DeLoss Dodds, the price you pay (only 1/12th of a conference network=Texas, his comment) is that you get exposure outside the Lone Star fiefdom. and like, national exposure, yo.

"National" to them means the Nation of Texas.
I hate making gross generalizations but I 've spent enough time and dealt with enough Texans to say that they really don't think they need anyone else and that they really are the center of their own universe.
To most of them the state of Colorado is just a place to go skiing and hunting. Might as well be Canada or Switzerland to them.
I agree that I would love to see them get their own network and watch it backfire on them. The only bad thing is that would probably kill any Big 12 Network to replace the crappy FSN contract. Would be even better if we moved to the Pac and watched Texas suck all the blood out of the rest of the Big 12 after we leave.

Dodds acting like Texas would have to share an equal 12th of the exposure for a conference network with every other member institution is laughable. Because said network would give Baylor or any non-NU team in the North as much.
FWIW, I worked as media during my time there and can say the growth of the school's own network is a very real goal of that AD. Chris Plonsky is the head honcho behind all the branding of the Texas name and likeness in NCAA competition and said network is her grand vision for the future of UT athletics. Last season the result was primarily that more women's basketball games were given regional TV time when a national network didn't pick them up. Game broadcasts were crewed by a local production company and Plonsky herself even did color commentary for some of the games. They were shown locally on FSN (we get alternating FS Southwest and FS Houston feeds here, so I'm not sure what other TV markets saw this) and transitions in and out of instant replay displayed a motion graphic reading "Longhorn Sports Network." Baby steps. I'd imagine if this grows they'll soon begin covering more borderline revenue sports that don't get national media attention (softball, soccer, potentially non-conference baseball) and work their way up from there. Probably fill a day's programming schedule with coaches' show reruns and "classic" game footage. Again, there is a very regional appeal to this but on a national scale and outside of large Texas markets where there is a concentrated alumni base this would be a tough sell.
