ya, J-Fly was a FSU guy too. wanted to play there.
FSU might work, they managed to forestall the development of Lorenzo Booker (another #1 HS RB) until his SR year as well.
honestly, I don't wish any ill will on DS (or anybody really). you heard he was a good kid, a show boat, a prima donna....all over the map. who knows?

Better hurry and find someplace that will take him. The demand for a once-injured RB with two non-redshirt years remaining is waning while he's already missed out on the spring practices. He needs to go somewhere quickly so his academic progress doesn't stall and he can learn the playbook if he ever wants to see a Division I field again. Plus, hope he's been keeping himself in shape since October. Stock is falling fast and I really want things to work out for him.

Not sure what happens academically when you take a semester off. I assume if he left CU with a decent GPA, then there's no negative effect in taking a semester off from classes, but it would be to his benefit (I assume) to get enrolled somewhere SOON and get some A's and B's in summer school so he can dig in to football in the fall with a lighter academic schedule --- somewhere.
I wondered about this. If Cincinnati had him in for an official visit in March, and DID NOT OFFER, something must have not clicked there. Despite him leaving CU, I am also rooting for him to get it together, so hope he is staying healthy or thinking about getting back in shape if he's not now.

It still sickens me that Darrell left. I don't know but can't help but feel that he was screwed with by the coaches. Everyone was expecting to see him on the field but didn't play. It might have been a generational thing and why I now think it is a mistake to have former legends as coaches. The legends think of themselves as the benchmark. The book Moneyball talked about how Red Sox legend Jim Rice was the batting coach and how his attitude was "Just try and be like me and you'll be great." There is no room for individuality and it just leads to frustration. Sucks that we lost a 5 star recruit (not like we get one everyday). And when Hawk is finally run off I hope they all are gone as well.

DS just doesn't seem to want it enough. It seems like he's more preoccupied with facebook and girls than actually getting in shape and learning a playbook, oh and finding a school to play for.

This. The guy had talent no doubt, but when you get to the D1 level, you have to work at it. He never seemed to put in effort to try and get in shape. I agree with the poster saying Kiesau said he is sitting on a couch eating donuts. Just by looking at him you could tell he wasn't in the shape that a D1 running back needed to be.

The want to is what seperates the men from the boys. You can have all the skills in the world and look like **** if you dont work. Its just some have more skills than others and can look good when they play half ass. The greats all have the want to.

DS rarely got the ball and when he did it was a run from a shotgun formation usually on a short yardage situation where the D was expecting a run. A good RB needs to be able to make at least one guy miss but sometimes he had a guy on him before he even got the ball handed to him. The coaches had piss poor play calls for him and running out of the shotgun was a dumb idea for a bigger back. If they would have put him in a power formation where the QB gets under center to hand the ball off then he would have had half a chance... Only problem is our stupid head coach wants to run everything from a shotgun formation so his midget son can play QB and get a better chance to see what is going on.

Dude I defended DS for a long time, I just don't think it's in the cards anymore. I won't sit here and say that Hawk and crew handled him perfectly, but at some point something has to fall on DS. The guy left CU how long ago? and still doesn't have a new school? He was notorious for showing up overweight after prolonged breaks, I just don't see how a serious football player can do that. I do agree that the shotgun probably wasn't the best formation for DS, but it's hard to build an entire offense around a guy you aren't sure would show up every week. I can't help but think that his nagging injuries weren't just bad luck, but lack of proper conditioning. I think he's a good guy still, not trying to pile on his character, there is more to life than football. I wish him luck wherever he ends up.

Actually, read the posts again. I don't see any piling on, I see a few folks scratching their heads and wondering what happened to such a promising young player.
I wish him well, and say again: get in school, Darrell. Now.
It's not just "playing time" slipping away, it's his life and his options for the future. He needs to be getting an education somewhere. If he doesn't want to play anymore, fine, but try to get situated somewhere and start working toward something.

I heard he is waiting until next year when Hawk is gone...then he's going to come back on the team and BLAST a doughnut hole through opposing defenses....then go to the league...get a max contract...and then match the $50M donation we're going to receive when Hawk is gone...then we are going to build the best facilities in all of D1...and CU becomes a full-time POWERHOUSE....anybody else hearing the same?
Ty Littlehales comes to mind, although Ty wasn't nearly as heralded as D Scott was. There are some players who just dominate at the HS level without much effort. College ball comes as a rude shock to their system. They're suddenly on a team with 50 other guys who are just as good as they are, and are playing against teams with players who are just as good as they are. Some players just don't make it.
Even so, I think it comes down to the coaches to get the most out of their players. It's the coaches responsibility to motivate and prepare their players. I think D Scott was let down by the coaches here.

One thing I never heard explained by Hawkins, Darien or anyone else is why last year Scott returned the opening kickoff, was the RB for the first play of the game and then wasn't in the backfield for the rest of the game. He couldn't have been injured as he returned kicks all game. They played Stewart and Sumler a lot and I believe gave Lockridge a few carries, but Scott saw no action. He was supposedly in shape and the fact he started the game was encouraging. We had such high expectations for last year. It seemed the same every week. Other than Toledo he saw basically no action. If he was out of shape or didn't know the playbook why did he start the first game of the season? The whole thing reeks to high heaven and I get the impression they ran him off, ala Marcus Houston.
I dunno. The fact he isn't on scholly any where leads me to believe there is something about DS that is a part of the problem. Sonny scooped up MH faster than you can say Copenhagen, MH had talent, that was obvious. Something tells me there is a DS issue nobody wants to touch.
Yeah, must be the coaches screwing with him.... They are the ones delivering the donuts to his house also.
Of all the piling on towards our coaches, there's really only one point I'll never agree with. That some people feel that talent should play over hard work. Without hard work, teams quickly decay into chaos and there are plenty of talented teams who win nothing. I don't know a single coach or athlete who has success at ANY level that would agree with that. Some things are sacred and if you don't put forth the effort, you don't play. That's a basic tenet and how people continue to moan about Hawkins playing walkins is laughable to me.
How dare Hagan (he of the national championship ring) expect his RBs to play with heart and learn to block?
Personally can't wait for the battle for playing time this fall. There are no 5-stars or annoited ones. Every kid competing for playing time at RB has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. Thank God.
He had one carry, but he played a handful of plays. He had a pass catch for 14 yards. Stats:
Scott 1 carry for 1 yard
Lock 1 carry for 9 yards
Stewart 6 carries for 38 yards
Sumler 8 carries for 20 yards
Rather than a conspiracy, I think film tells the story. Staff went with what was effective. Darrell was effective in HS running thru huge holes. He was effective vs. Toledo when the holes were large and obvious. Speedy was better at finding a sliver of an opening, which too often, was all we had to work with. When CU fell behind and went to the passing game, we saw a lot of Sumler who was considered more reliable at picking up the blitzers.

I wouldn't know, but I am interested in why Darrell Scott, the #1 running back in his class, has not landed anywhere else. No offers, no stories, just one visit. Could there be one reason why he left the team, and another entirely different reason why nobody picked him up yet?
Other players, on a variety of teams, choose to work it through with a coach they don't like. If it's in your own best interest to stay, there is a way to remain and get the most you can out of the situation you are in. Maybe it's called sucking it up, but painful as it is, it's better than being in nowhere land, as DS seems to be now.
I didn't learn that until much later than college, when for various reasons, I had to stay working for bosses I thought I couldn't stand, but I survived and I outlasted them, which was satisfying. Liberating, in fact. Some of this mess has to be dumped at the feet of whoever was personally advising Darrell, as well. He is still a very young man, and someone needed to show him the pros and cons of this very serious decision. First off, when you want to quit a job, you don't do it until you have a better offer. Likewise, Darrell left CU without a plan in place, apparently, or such a vague idea of what would happen next, that it amounts to having no plan at all. Giving up your scholarship with no other viable options in place because you don't like a coach (if indeed that's the case) or because you don't like the way you are being treated, or the playing time you are getting ...
is a perfect example of cutting your nose off to spite your face, or better yet: putting all your eggs in NO basket.

Hagan didn't coach Marcus Houston, he started with the Buffs in 2004 on the defensive side of the ball.
I think this might be one of those cases where there is more than enough blame to go around. You can find ideas about why a number of guys are at fault.
Hawkins - Choose to run an offense that doesn't suit DS's skills, asked him to do things that he was not prepared or taught to do, be a blocking back and run out of sets other than the I, lack of coherent blocking scheme in front of him. Worse that this is screwing with his head, he's hurt but healthy enough to return kicks, says he's going to get the ball a bunch then bench him after one or two carries, send a bunch of mixed messages so the kid doesn't know what to think.
Hagan - Much of the same as listed for Hawkins plus ride the kid for not doing things he has never had to do and you haven't taught him to do. DS wouldn't be the first talented player to be very unhappy with Hagan as a coach.
Scott - Shows up for camp late, fat, out of shape, and not play through the inevitable aches and pains. Don't work hard enough to learn the parts of the game you don't like, sulk when you are not the center of attention. Sit out because of injuries that others including other players and coaches think aren't enough to keep you out. Never really adapt to what you need to do to be a productive part of the team.
J-Fly and the posse - I don't have any proof but it wouldn't surprise me if DS wasn't hearing from a lot of his "friends" about how he wasn't being respected and given a fair shot.
Considering that he hasn't gotten a lot of attention and interest from other schools you have to think that either coaches believe that there is something seriously wrong with DS's attitude and effort or that DS himself really doesn't have a great interest in playing anymore right now and hasn't been shy in communicating that.
