Just some post game thoughts. Not much of a thread starter, but I watched the game last night (thanks for the link Jens) and was appalled. We are so predictable. Especially with the game on the line and Cody in, if you want an interception just double Scotty with a couple of your best athletes.
1. With all due respect to the sunny side of the board, I can personally do without anymore threads scolding negativism. The team is in a bad situation, period. There is no other place than a football forum like Allbuffs to express any dissatisfaction with the program. The administration sure doesn’t care how fans feel about Colorado football. I appreciate the glass half full attitude but you just can’t expect happy happy joy joy feelings when the team lays another egg on the road and in the process produces a product that looks very similar to what we have seen for the last four plus years.
2. I don’t see the basis for feeling we are going to win any more games other than the Lamehawks and maybe the clowns, maybe. We are at home but, QB’s with wheels, like Griffin III have killed Hawkins led teams. We have Tech’s number…..more like Tech is due for a big win…..with no more pressure than we get on the QB Potts will have all the time in the world to pick us apart. As for the rest, we could beat the Purple Kitties but we will be out coached and that will be the difference.
3. This season is shaping up to be a mirror of last season. The defense gives a spirited effort despite it’s major shortcoming (pass rush) until it loses energy from another string of poor performances from the offense and the truly offensive special teams play.
4. I personally wonder what Hawk’s breaking point is. How long did he really think it would take to rebuild this program? Did he not think five years would be enough? With this extension nonsense he was spewing would he be content to put in to put in an entire career here with the current level of play if the higher powers were willing to accept it? This is all his, the players, the staff, even his deity-like son. If he can’t do it with this why not step aside? At what point in time does even he have the personal self respect to walk away and let the Buffs move on with someone who can hopefully restore the shine? Or does he even have that? Baffling
5. News flash….”the kids” aren’t kids. I’ve read several of their “tweets” and they are anything but kids. They are far more worldly wise than I. They are MEN, old enough to vote, fight in a war, father children, and old enough to quit buying the snake oil their boss is selling. I do respect these “men” keep on trying even in the face of such incompetence, but they are men and should be able to shoulder some responsibility (not reviling and scorn) for the teams problems.
Finally - This is so not the way I had hoped we would go out of the Big II. It pains me to no end to say this but the Huskers, not us, are in the position to go out with style, to go out a winner. We are going to walk out of this conference a loser, every week a team looks forward to kicking our butts in bidding us adieu and that sucks. Worse still, from the clips I’ve seen the Huskers are as well positioned as they have been in a long time to put an exclamation point on the overall dominance they have enjoyed in this series. Martinez is scary! I really hoped the football team could walk away from this conference with heads held high, a winner. I wish I could see that happening. On this point I conclude by saying; “thanks Dan Hawkins, in addition to all the other indignities you have heaped on the fans, you have also stolen the thunder from one of our finest hours.
