On the Hoof: Physically, Wood has a great quarterback body. He has broad shoulders, is strong through the chest, has a sturdy base and should have the strength to take a college pounding. Wood is similar in size and build to current Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.

Needs Improvement: At times, Wood doesn't consistently get good spin on his football, particularly on vertical routes. He has a tendency to hang the football in the air too long. He will need an adjustment period to deal with the speed of the college game after playing at a low level of football in high school.

Most Impressive: Wood has very good arm-strength, but what really makes him special is his athleticism. His high release combined with good size benefit him as a passer. Though he is a big, physical prospect, Wood can really run, is mobile in the pocket and is very comfortable throwing on the run and outside of the pocket. As far as the physical tools that you look for in a quarterback, there is very little that Wood is lacking.

I'm a fan too, although it sure makes for a crowded competition next year. I assume the coaching staff already reached out to Dillon to make sure he wasn't scared off by this. If Connor shows up and wins the competition next year, definitely a possibility, than obviously Dillon redshirts (which I assume he would regardless). Wood would have as many as 3 years as the starter assuming he could beat out Dillon in his RS Freshman and So years. If that is the case Dillon could be the back up and get some limited action those 2 years and then be the full time started for his Junior and Senior year. Makes some sense. I bet there are about 4 other QBs who are a little miffed right now though, especially Hirschman who must have been certain that he'd start next year. Serious competition at QB with 4* talent. When was the last time CU had two 4* QBs at the same time???

I don't count Hirschman out in any way. He'll have been in the system much longer and also knows better what his teammates can do. He's also got the size, a good arm, good accuracy, and moves surprisingly well.

I had posted in other threads that I think 2012's team only goes as far as our QB can take us. Now, I feel like we have a much better shot of coming out of competition with someone who can win us some games.

The trendy guess would be Stewart & Detmer, but I don't know what ratings were like then nor was I following the program. In August 2003 we didn't yet know what we had on the roster with Klatt and Colt Brennan both there. Funny how things may have turned out then if CB was here and stepping in for all of Klatt's injuries over the years.

2 four stars and a 3 star and a surprising walkon sounds a lot better than a 3 star. :nod:
 
I'm freaking pumped about this. Our 2012 season just got a lot brighter imo. At the very least we will have some solid competition between Hirschman and Wood next year. Welcome Connor!
 
If the qb position defines a team's ceiling then our qb position battle next year should improve our recruiting at every other position!! I think recruits are already excited for where it looks like we are headed but you get these guys committed this early and the big boys at different positions will feel a lot more comfortable signing up to be a part of the rise of the program

Can't Wood practice with the team this year? If so, wouldn't Hirschman only have 1 more month of practice in this system than Wood come next fall?
