'12 NJ CB Yuri Wright (Signed to Colorado)

Not my point. There's some kind of weird connection between NJ and CO that I can't explain. My roommate was from NJ. We had five guys in my fraternity from New Jersey. There's something about Colorado that is especially attractive to kids from New Jersey. I think it's a combination of Wild-West mysticism and 300+ days of sunshine every year.

My best friend at CU (early 70's) was from NJ.

I have about 5 friends that I met at CU or after that are all from NJ. They all grew up together and ended up here. A package deal of friends and family from several different years at CU. An omen?

I can speak from personal experience. I grew up primarily in NJ, have lived all over, and when I had a choice of living anywhere I settled in Boulder. There's just something special about this place and I haven't found anywhere that compares.

I really hope we can land Yuri. I know a lot of people have been turned off by his recruitment and donmac, but man this kid could lock corner down for 3-4 for us. Just what a Greg Brown defense needs.

"Wright said no school will be safe when he cuts his list, but that Colorado stands out right now. 'I have a good relationship with [assistant coach Greg Brown] and I liked a lot of what I saw when I visited,' he said."

Source this stuff...

Not listed in his schools of interest on ESPN. At the same time, I realize ESPN SUCKS at recruiting coverage.

“I don’t really have a top five or anything like that,” Wright said. “I do like (in no order) Michigan, Notre Dame, Colorado, Rutgers and Georgia right now.”

Alabama, Oregon, South Carolina and others are also programs to watch here.
At this point, Wright said the Fighting Irish and Buffaloes are “recruiting him the hardest”, along with the in-state Scarlet Knights. He made an unofficial visit to Colorado with teammateElijah Shumate a couple of months back and the Buffs appear to be factor.

In the same article above, he puts Rutgers in his top 5 and then states he wants to get away from home. Rutgers has no chance.

DonMac certainly has rubbed me the wrong way at times, but his info is credible on the DBP kids. Yuri is going to put a lot of value in getting out of the hood and "far away" enough from it so he has no contact with those jokers.

Greg Brown is tops in putting CBs into the NFL - check
Greg Brown has a very close relationship with the HS coach Yuri is closest with (he uses GB's tapes as training aids) - check
Boulder is pleasant and provides as good of a buffer from the Gangsters as you are going to get - check
Terrell Smith and his Dad love Boulder and are very vocal about it - check

I think Kanavis is turning out to be pretty awesome for us. He started slow, with no real coaching record. Seems Embree knew he was going to be great at this. Inner city kid who left the hood behind for Boulder and the NFL. Then went back to Houston and worked in the educational system at the high school level. Seems to really care for the kids and understands better than most what is happening at that level. Just been hearing that Kanavis is really good at working with these kid and parents...

EB is doing a lot of work now, but his in-season obligations as OC are going to limit the time he can devote to recruiting, at least to an extent.

Cabral, Tui, and Kennedy are all going to help on the recruiting trail in a big way. Kennedy is helping us establish relationships at schools all over the DFW area. That is going to pay off sooner rather than later. Cabral and Tui should both help in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Different coaches have different styles. EB is just such a bundle of energy and enthusiasm it is hard to say no to him, he either turns people on to him or off to him quickly, and there are people who don't like EB's style.

Cabral on the other hand is a guy who builds relationships over time. I get the impression that Tui is more similar to Brian. They just stick with guys and communicate and over time players come to realize that they can trust and believe in what they are being told. Cabral has a load of guys who stay in touch with him long after they leave CU including a number of guys who didn't completely pan out as players but still feel like Cabral gave them an honest opportunity and put his effort into them.

I don't know much about Kennedy's style but if nothing else he will get CU into the minds of a lot of Texas schools and kids.

With the destruction of the program that Hawk managed it is going to take some time to build recruiting back to where we all want it to be. That said I do expect to see some significant kids in this years class and would love Yuri to be one of those. This is a perfect opportunity for him to come in and get some great coaching, play early, and be a part of a program that is on the way up fast.

A true lock-down corner is extremely rare in college football. I don't know if Wright is that kind of player or not, but if he is, he'll be special - particularly in college. A probable four-year starter.

EB can blow off this year as OC...load up with recruits for the next three years....

Until they decide it's profitable to dominate it. Then, goodbye Rivals, Scout and 247.
