I think it’s a case of a guy trying to work on too many variables at once. Kountz needs to improve his 3pt jumper, his ball handling, perimeter defense and his passing. Evolving game with the raw tools to get where he needs to be - it will be fun to see what he can become once we start seeing him come out the other end of this process.
Played a team he decommitted from in a hostile arena that booed him from warm-ups to the final buzzer. Of course that woke the tiger. Kin’s competitive juices got a much needed charge.

347 teams in D1. 95% means that there are around 17 teams we probably wouldn't be favored against if this team finds consistent production from the "2", but that we'd be a dangerous out for those 17ish teams. I don't think that's a controversial opinion.

Tourney team last year. Good hoops program. It's so hard to get good competition to visit during the holidays and it's great to see that Tad was able to bring in an opponent with a pulse on 12/29 ahead of conference play.

They’ve been to the tourney the last 4 years and they’ve got a few seniors with a lot of experience, two of which are guards. EJ Crawford will give us trouble.
What’s with their scheduling though? Only 6 games so far?
What’s crazy to me is that: let’s say we get the stop at the end and don’t need the buzzer beater 3 to win. Hit FTs and it ends in less dramatic fashion with Dayton clanking their lost shot. The shot of the game to me, or at least OT, is Schwartz taking Toppin off the dribble and finishing at the rim between Toppin and the help defender. That was an NBA drive and finish around a guy who will be drafted higher than anyone we will play all season.

Had to tape it, but after about 10 minutes, 7 turn-overs, and Dayton dominating 8-2, and boo'ing of Wright I was about to turn off and go to bed. But I thought I'd watch to see if the same problems (turnovers) were still there. Almost magically I noticed the Buffs closing the gap, which was hard to read with a dominant Dayton fan base. When they went ahead I thought, 'won't last," and it did. The turnovers stopped the boo'ing of Wright was silenced. . by Wright's 29 pts. I thought. . where did this team come from? After the worse performance of the year with Prairie VIew A&M, I was expecting some improvement, but I credit Wright with motivating the team. The treatment of Wright by Dayton fans was literally childish (when you commit to a school you also commit to the coach, and changing the coaching staff, is like changing the school). When he threw up that layup that looked to others like a prayer and stuck it and showing that arm muscle might have seemed an arrogant demonstration, if it weren't for the fans boo'ing him and clearly he had something to prove, and even the TV announcers thought it was OK.

I'm wrong. I was worried that MW was turning the ball over more than in the past. Had 5 last night.
2.9 per game freshman year. 3.1 last year. 3 this year. The guy handling the ball on 90% of the possessions is always going to have some.
He has been the heart of this team for 2 years. Now, we have Bey, Battey, Schwartz, taking on a lot of the load (altho Tyler needs to 'clear his head' and may have last night)

I've thought since the schedule came out we're going to split with the Ducks during the RS-with each of us winning on our home floors. Get that game, take down UW here, and sweep the Trees (they're not ranked but the NET rankings have them 12th).

So basically he needs to work on what, 90% of his game?
He's got skills as a scorer in the open court that you can't teach. Tad's system depends on guys like that to get buckets. Kountz could be another Carlon type scoring option with Iso plays as he grows up. But that other stuff could make him so much more than that.

I have hard time believing that. He doesn't have the shooting touch Carlon has.
I think you’ve got selective memory limited to the Pac-12 tourney MVP run. Other than that, Carlon was carrying around a bricklayers union card. Scorer, not a shooter.
pre-game KOA, Tad said he'd told Schwartz that if anyone had earned the right to keep shooting, even if they weren't falling, it was him. Endless practice and a great stroke.

Maybe I'm only remembering his highlights. But in my mind, CB is way better in terms of athleticism, strength, outside shooting, post play and ball handling. Ya, pretty much everything.
Whenever Kountz is dribbling, I'm worrying about TO, every single time. It's that bad IMO.

Agreed. Willing to give the kid another year to show what he’s got, but just like with sooooo many of Tad’s guard recruits in the last 5 years, you see occasional glimpses of the potential to be a solid contributor but mostly long stretches of basically nothing.
He can finish on a fast break or when given a wide open lane to the hoop ... but tons of guys can do that at this level. But can he actually threaten the defense in the half court? Can he distribute and create for others? So far, I’m seeing very little of that. Maybe he turns into a Dom Collier type by senior year ... a solid spot up shooter and occasional slasher.
