'19 CO RB Jeremy Hollingsworth (Verbal to Wyoming)

I am assuming that Wyoming offered him a scholarship. In that case it would be very hard for him to justify walking on at CU if he can go someplace and get school paid for.

We kid about it but Wyo is a pretty decent school and at times a good football program. Other than the weather Laramie isn't a bad place to live and it's close enough for him to visit home easily.
 
I’d like to think that Wyoming came through with a scholarship offer after CU offered the PWO.

Not necessarily. They'd been recruiting him for a lot longer than we had and they'd been doing so with the same staff. He would also look at the number of underclassmen RBs that CU has on scholarship and know the path to earning a free ride was not a good one with the Buffs.
 
As 'Nik said, but they may have pulled the trigger at the last minute. Wyoming is really thin at RB compared to CU.

Evans graduated (top rusher).
2 guys played as Frosh last year, so will be Sophs.
It appears that they redshirted a Frosh in '18, but he played QB in high school.

Answering my own question . . . their rivals site does not have him listed as a commit. I suppose it could be a slow update, but at this point I am assuming PWO with a lighter depth chart. An aside, fire up that Denver media on unrecruiting CO as the Pokes have 20 commits (CA, TX, MN and one each WY, MO, IL) but none from CO. What the hell does Craig Bohl think he is doing? And to offer a CO a PWO rather than a scholarship. Insane!

Maybe the DI football coaches in CO and WY should collaborate and write an op ed piece on how terrible the reporting in on the front range? I'd love to see that twitter firestorm.

You are right about the recruiting time and the depth chart.

It may even be a case where Wyoming gave him a specific path to a scholarship. Earn your way to a certain level on the depth chart or play a certain amount or some other targets and the scholarship is promised. I doubt that the CU staff would or could give him similar assurances.

It still wouldn't surprise me if Wyo came through with a scholly for him though. It may have been a case of them waiting for some other puzzle pieces to fall before offering. It could even be a case where they told him to come in as a PWO and as soon as space is available due to attrition or somebody not qualifying they would take care of him.

We will probably find out on LOI day.
 
Which, for those unfamiliar with the term, is basically an invite by the staff, that says you are on the team to start your career. From day 1, they will be awaiting you, and you will have a spot to prove yourself. You are obviously not on scholarship, therefore, one eats with the student body rather than the team training table. But otherwise, is treated largely no differently. You are treated as part of the team from day 1, until they (or you) decide you are wasting your time.

Or they give you a scholarship. You forgot that very important point...

not sure if you meant this metaphorically or not. If so, disregard the following, but walk-ons once you have made the team (preferred or not) can still eat at the champions center and take advantage of the non-tuition related things for football players.

I believe you are correct. My understanding is that they are allowed to participate fully in any "team" activity including trading table meals, academic support, etc. If the team is issued team clothing for travel or team functions they can receive this as well.

The cannot be issued credit for meals outside the team setting (eating with the general student body) especially outside of the times that organized team activities are not allowed.
 
Three lost scholarships at CU say no training table for walk ons was an old rule. Three saved scholarships at Ohio State later that year remind me the rule was changed.
