According to Wikipedia, it was 1 point. 847 to 846. CU won the AP poll by 34 with 39 first-place votes to 20 for GT.

I believe I read the a$$hat voted us 3, but what was the killer were his open statements about being the only coach in the nation who had played both teams andthat GT was a much better team.
The idot was just jealous that Mac had turned an entire program around and won a national championship before he could.
I have no respct for him whatsoever, and I hope fails miserably in his new role. Bitter - hell yes.

I could never figure that one out, we ended up putting a solid win on them in Stincoln and yet they got the Jellowjackets on a neutral field. Nebraskans want to know why we treat them like crap, well, there you go.......

The key was not only a neutral field, but it was a VERY weak NU team that played in that game (in some cases third stringers were playing due to injuries and suspensions). Tom knew it and just wanted to be an a-hole.
I was pissed when Mac didn't return the favor when TO was lobbying for his MNC in '94 when there was a Penn State team that was also undefeated and probably better. Mac was too respectable. He should have voted them around 20 or so just to make sure TO got the message.

Do you know of a site/article/whatever that details this whole situation? "This whole situation" meaning the coaches' poll fiasco as well as the weakened Nebraska roster for their game with GT...
The thing that really gets me about this is that going into the bowl games, CU had a fairly significant lead in the coaches poll.

I found a quick article here that doesn't give you the lineups but definitely signifies a husker team that had packed it in after the loss to CU (I love the author's last name).
Beating a team who didn't beat a ranked opponent and on a losing streak is probably as good as beating number 1 ND in the Orange Bowl, right? :huh:

Revisions aplenty are needed after the 13th- and 19th-ranked Huskers' 45-21 Citrus Bowl loss Tuesday to No. 2 Georgia Tech.
That setback before a record crowd of 72,328 at Citrus Bowl Stadium produced the following entries, few of which NU fans will want to remember:
Four straight bowl losses, a first in the school's 29-game postseason history.
45 points allowed, matching the most ever given up by a Tom Osborne team in his 18 years as head coach. That mark was established in Nebraska's previous game, a 45-10 loss at Oklahoma. Thus, the 45 points also were the most ever allowed in a bowl game.
The 90 points allowed in two games are the most since 1945 losses of 61-7 to Minnesota and 54-14 to Indiana.
Three losses in four games (Colorado, Oklahoma and Georgia Tech) is a first for Osborne.
No victories over ranked teams for the second straight year. The last time before 1989 and 1990 was 1967.
But perhaps most painful is that Nebraska could drop out of the national rankings at season's end, something that hasn't happened since 1968.
"I'm afraid it's going to happen," senior offensive tackle Tom Punt said. "A 9-3 Nebraska isn't what people expect."
Junior middle guard Pat Engelbert agreed.
"As far as respect goes, we haven't beaten a top-ranked team," he said. "Maybe if we're lucky, we'll only drop out of one poll and stay about 20th in the other." Osborne said he doesn't know how the polls will shake out, and said little about whether the Huskers deserve to be ranked after losses to the nation's top two teams entering New Year's Day and a third to Oklahoma, once ranked as high as fifth.

Not necessarily. Callahan had not one, but two losing seasons before he was canned. That's a far cry from 9-3.

Plus, most people certainly don't expect a 9-3 season from the fuskers these days. That is still true, even if the circumstances are a bit different now... :smile2:

BS. You know just as well as I do that 94 NU, CU, and Miami would've killed that team. They had absolutely no defense and played a very weak Oregon team to win the Rose Bowl and go undefeated. You guys were the second best team that season with Miami #3.
The point still stands that unlike TO, Coach Mac at least had the class to rank the fuskers #1 over Penn State. CU was also better than G-Tech. and if it wasn't for Bienemy's 5 fumbles in Lincoln in '90 that score would have been worse than 27-12. I don't know for sure, but I'll bet Slick Rick ranked the fuskers #1 in '97 after playing both them and Michigan. And bear in mind CU almost won that game, and was blown out by Michigan.

I agree with the point that we were top two - frankly I say CU was better than NU but had one unbelievably bad game that season. We choked so that is that.
I guarantee our talent was better - proven by the fact that all but one starter that season on BOTH O and D started in the NFL at some point. Probably the best CU team that has ever been fielded.
Regardless, NU, CU and Penn State were way above the rest of the country without a doubt.
My question still stands - why should NU have got sole MNC when there were two undefeated teams? Penn State deserved a share of that one.

Yes, I also think that's who it was and I think that was the same year, but I don't recall whether or not he played in the bowl game. :huh:
