2012-13 Colorado Basketball Game thread: ASU @ Colorado

Which is what made it all the more miraculous that we did that to them.

I have zero faith we can beat them this season. Scott was scared of Bach and started fade away jumpers. They play too physical and get away with it. Our game is to slash and draw contact, if fouls aren't called we see 30% shooting.

I'm hoping teams don't just use this as a blueprint.

What? Play football in a basketball game? Because that's what happened. That will not happen in Vegas.

Mixed feelings. They're a bad match up, but they still just don't scare the **** out of me the way Stanford did last year where I was praying to avoid them. Tonight was about bad timing with the quick turnaround and injury. Shoot 38 percent against these guys and we win with zero drama. They won't be shooting 46 percent in a next matchup, either.

Basketball is physical. Tante is right on this. I understand you are upset but you have to overcome the officials and physical play in games. Now, was it right? No. But you have to overcome it. All the great teams do. One bounce this way or that way and we win. These games happen

I don't think there's a blueprint to use. Unless a team has a 7'2" goon and the refs allow a wrestling match to break out, this game was more aberration than blueprint. And we still led until the final possession.

Yeah basketball is physical. But this was a football game. Even Boyle said it. If the 7'2" bitch gets kicked out it changes the whole game in our favor. Instead Scott can't return and he gets away with it all the while he had been committing clear fouls like pushing off all game down low. The refs have a massive part in this loss.

Tonight reminded me of watching the Big East during their ill-fated experiment of going to 6 fouls before being disqualified in league games. That league was already physical and that turned games into hackfests. Directly led to Big East teams struggling to adjust to play in the NCAA Tourney.

Is that what Larry Scott and the Pac-12 wants to see this league become?

Apparently so, because this isn't a new problem and he hasn't done anything about it.

How do you out-rebound a team 40-18 and lose?

When you get hacked on every shot in the paint, the refs don't call it, and it causes you to shoot 35%.

Honestly, if this was what basketball usually was as a game I wouldn't watch it.

Sendek ball. Done it for years. This was a disgrace to the game of basketball tonight, no doubt about it.

Chen player awful tonight as well. I would have rather seen Talton in than him. At least Talton can score sometimes. 0 points in 29 minutes for Chen and he really ****ed up on the last play of the game.

Chen was really disappointing tonight. After Scott left, we had to go small, but Chen did nothing to help this team win.

End of our game led off SportsCenterU. Still pissed that they were able to get to the hoop on that last play.

It amazes me that we have been as successful as we've been with ZERO outisde threats. We are just awful from more than 5 feet from the basket. I'm surprised teams don't just go zone on us. We don't have a soul that anybody should fear from the outside, except the occasional rare game for Ski or Dinwiddie. Every time somebody pulls up for a jumper, I wince.

Once XJ went up, got hacked across both arms on the layup, and there was no call, you could see his demeanor change. And he's consistently our most aggressive player. The refs completely changed the flow of this one.

Hell, even on the play that put it into OT Spencer had to make that pass with the guy he'd beaten grabbing his arm from a trailing position and trying to pull him down.

Occasional rare game? Seriously?

Yep, that was pretty blatantly changing his body position too. It should've been an easy call.

Well, it becomes much easier when you pick the ball up outside the free throw line and carry it under your arm like a football.

Yes, I know that's a call that you're not going to get, especially in that situation. Still drives me insane.

This is college basketball folks. At the end of the season, only one team ends without heartbreak. We've been dealt two of the most brutal doses of defeat that you will ever see. In the end, things all even out. We're going to catch a major break somewhere down the stretch and get a buzzer beater of our own -- that will actually count.

There's a good chance we'll be seeing Arizona State again this season, whether you like it or not, so the final chapter with the Sun Devils is not necessarily written. A Quarterfinal matchup is quite possible with 4/5 or 3/6.

For now though, time to move on. Fortunately, this wasn't a 'must win' that now has us NIT bound. However, our next game is a 'must win' in every sense of the word. It's also another chance for revenge. Let's get ready for the Utes and get back on track.

Yeah. Sure, they both can score. And both can get hot from outside. But we simply don't have a single consistent outside threat, like nearly every other team in the conference. Someone who lives on the perimeter. Like someone said, we penetrate and look for fouls. When we don't get the calls, our 30% shooting kills us.

Spencer shoots 45% from 2 and 42% from 3. Ski shoots 35% from 2 and 34% from 3 but he has huge splits and is much better at home. Spencer and Ski aren't our problems. It's the lack of bench scoring, they had 3 points tonight combined. Scott also having zero points really hurt as well as we can expect around 13-14/game from him.

This team desperately needs a deadly sharpshooter as a 6th man. They work wonders. You go cold, put him in, and suddenly in one minute you've got 9 points. Believe it or not, this type of player is not impossible to find, either.

Apparently, they grow on trees in Canada.

Only 2 CU players went to the line, one being XJ who took only 4 free throws. He was getting hacked left and right. 4 free throws...

Yep, amazing that Scott and Dre never made it to the line. They were mugged all night long
