2015 Colorado Spring Game Info & Roll call

Ross has good speed at the WR position from what I've seen. Now, other aspects of his game is what we need to find out, if he will be a contributor or not. The WR position has potential. Fall will tell us a lot here. Fingers crossed.

Waiting to see Ross turn his speed into plays, Lee has some speed as well but again hasn't turned it into plays. Fields is the only guy we have who has so far shown that he can make a move and run by a DB using his speed to get open. Of course Spruce gets open even without having great speed but it would be a huge help if we could have a couple guys stretch the field more than we do.

Don't think we will get that from lil' Mac but he sure looked like a guy who can take a few quick steps to end up giving the QB an open target who will catch the ball.

Pretty sure that was sarcasm. Why would any coach do anything but keep their open practices vanilla? Not to mention we had a lot of players out who will see significant PT.

I never knew people took spring games so seriously. Do whatever minimizes the injury risk.
I debated whether or not to use the sarcasm font.

I liked Ross' film a lot out of high school, but drops-es seem to be a real issue here.

I think people are giving Ross and Lee too much deference. Neither has really proven anything at this level.

I think the "excitement" surrounding Ross stems from the fact that he is one of about 4 guys MM specifically praised time and time again leading up to the Spring Game and then he was 1 of maybe 2-3 skill position guys who actually made plays regularly in the drills and scrimmage.

Also seems odd to me that you're saying we're giving Ross and Lee too much praise when neither have proven anything, yet you stated that Jay Mac has the potential to be a top 4 WR this year. I like the kid and think he will be a contributor at some point in his career, but he's proven the same amount or less than either Ross or Lee.

Again, are there specific things that you were discouraged with? I'm not disagreeing with you, but I would like to have a discussion about this and "I wanted to be impressed" and "I wanted to see players making plays" don't really add value.

For example...

I was encouraged with: Witherspoon's pick 6, Carrell's play up front, Devin Ross' consistent ability stretch the field and make plays, Laguda's ability to play CB, Crawley's potential "shutdown" ability, Jimmy Gilbert in the Oklahoma drills, and Phillip Lindsay's running.

I was discouraged with: Yuri Wright's constant knack for getting burned, lack of anything resembling pass catching TE, the QB position (Sefo looked average, Gherke was much worse, and Apsay didn't get to throw a pass).

I say all these things with the understanding that what we will see in week 1 in Hawaii will resemble absolutely nothing to what we saw yesterday.

geez, you becoming tini is just a joy to watch.

Why wouldn't you name names? Just using a drive by statement saying you were disappointed by some without naming anyone is odd.

This sequence of posts in about a 15 minute span earlier was very funny to read.

Really? I heard it once early in spring.

My point was I think nothing much separates the guys who have played and the guys who have not, when talking about that 4th WR spot. So while I acknowledge it may be a stretch to say MacIntyre will end up in that spot by of the end of the season, it is not a big stretch.

I can agree with this for the WR 3/4 spots.

I heard Donovan Lee's name a lot this spring. Did not hear much on JayMac and did not hear anything on Ross after the first week.

Ross has a short history of the dropsies, but I'd say the data is limited as to whether or not he's overcome that. He definitely showed some speed on Saturday. I still wonder if he can catch the ball in space and make guys miss (bubble screens). He didn't do that in his True Frosh year effectively at all, but the jury is out for sure. Also question his blocking ability which is valued in this dink/dunk offense.

I'd guess that Spruce, Fields and Lee are solid, with Keeney projected as well for spots (just based on MM always mentioning him) and the rest of the PT is up for grabs. JayMac will get PT because he knows all the positions and catches everything (so I hear). That leaves Bobo, Walker, Dunston and Ross competing for some time (leaving Jan to RS). Expect some attrition here.

Thinking about it last night, maybe we are better off with this format? Usually we are all excited thinking how great the team looks and how big the players look (drinking the Kool-Aid). Now, we get to gnaw on this all summer. We won't be as disappointed if they come out and get pushed around in the first game.

This spring has very little bearing on what will happen in the fall outside of Spruce and Fields. Everyone else is fighting for playing time.

Queefer!

I thought the format was very cool on tv. It was nice to hear macs commentary. That compete period was awesome to watch, especially the spruce vs. Crawley and fields vs Witherspoon. I can see why people that went to the game were bummed but the practice part wasn't bad on tv.
