2016 CU News & Notes (Buff Stuff)

Fwiw, I was browsing the archives this morning, looking for something else, and stumbled across the coaching hires threads from 2013.

allbuffs, with the exception of 'Tini, was unanimous in its initial disapproval of both the Neinas and Baer hires. Nearly unanimous on Bernardi as well.

No revisionist history here. Good call guys, unfortunately.

For what it is worth there was no good reason to hire him in the first place.

He wasn't part of the SJSU staff that came over, he didn't have anything on his resume that said he deserved to be part of a P5 staff.

I don't know who it was with (Dr. Phil probably) but my sense is that his hiring was a favor from an administrator above Bohn to his Dad which also may have slowed his eventual and well deserved removal from the staff.

I can't wait for the day that the era of the influence of the old group including Phil and Nienas and the rest is gone and we can go back to running the AD like it means something without putting up with the favors and good old boy club.

My sense is that RG is the guy to make sure that happens.
 
1. No surprise there. Sefo is injured till he is not, and they want Montez prepping like #1.
2. Did he win the job with a good Michigan performance or is Krons still hurt? (or was that injury excuse just a way to hide why Haigler had moved to #1?)
3. Situational subs. Job is Falo's to lose as those other guys failed to lock down #2 in his absence tho.

Light-footed Haigler seems like a better fir for Oregon. Their DEs aren't big.
 
I don't get the impression Samson wants to talk about anything other than football. He did not seem to really enjoy that interview process.

Right side of the line is now 2 RS frosh. I know there is a decent chance Lynott moves to C next year (I'm guessing that puts Kronshage at RG), but still, that's nice to see long term starting potential talent shining through - and more or less performing so far.

Spring pencil depth chart starters:

LT - Irwin (Sr) ... Kronshage (Sr) if Irwin doesn't return for 6th year
LG - Kough (Sr)
C - Lynott (So)
RG - Huckins (Sr)
RT - Haigler (So)

That's a nice mix of senior leadership, talent, and experience. Gonna have to hope a few other young guys are ready to go though.

For sure. I think some of the younger guys will be ready to challenge by spring. Kaiser is right at the top of that list. Lisella, too, if he's back to full health and is ready to go 100%.

Oops. Meant to type Lisella. Thanks for catching that.

The other thing that I think could very well happen is that if Irwin comes back that Kronshage could end up being our starting RG with Miller and Middlemiss being the primary backups at LT & RT, respectively.

That OL sounds quite solid.

If we can get a couple JUCO or immediate impact freshman on the DL, CU should be alright next year. We miss Stanford and UO on the schedule and have the easiest OOC we have had in a long time.

Will also really need to have the youth movement in the secondary pan out. Losing a LOT.

My only real concern on offense next season will be on whether we have a QB who can get the ball to all the weapons he'll have. WRs look very good and deep. OL looks like it will be improved over this year.

Defense is what concerns me, too. I think we'll have a good secondary that's not as good as this year's. I think LBs will be improved. I think our DL takes a significant step back against the run, but might be a bit better on pass rush and pursue. The pieces are there for them to put together a good defense. I'd like to see some signings at DT, S and a pass rushing OLB.

Pedestrian RB corp also. Got to hope someone steps up. Not a knock on Lindsay who is fine and I love his blocking, but not a player teams game plan around.

Hoping Fontenot is that guy. Definitely looks the part in HS, need that to translate.
