2016 CU News & Notes (Buff Stuff)

Harsh? Yes. Unfair? Maybe. But only way to solve it is if we build a wall and make them pay for it.
this conjures memories of dozens of Allbuffs posts lamenting the anti-sports attitude in Boulder. that oughta fix it!

Why would he do that? Hell, I don't know. I do know that we did the right thing by not guaranteeing the starting job to Webb. We would be stupid to guarantee anything to Browne. Montez has earned his shot. He's a big boy and would understand it if Browne came in and beat him. He wouldn't be so understanding if the job was handed to Browne. As for Brownes motivation, that's his issue. If he wants to play here, those are the conditions.

That's my point. He doesn't want to play here. He wants to go somewhere where the starting job is guaranteed. That's not Colorado. Barring injury, Montez is the starter next year. This is a non-issue.

Then why is CU listed as one of his potential landing spots?

Meh. Makes little difference to me either way. Just thought I'd contribute to the conversation. Having depth at QB is a good thing. My point was that if he did want to come here, I'd take him as long as he wasn't guaranteed anything.

Make the students pay for it out of student fees.

What pisses me off is that they had their ticket prices reduced this year and got an amazing family deal for Utah game tickets. Student attendance probably cost the AD more money than they brought in, at the end of the day.
Disluke.

You guys can defend the students all you want, but I'm feeling like every nickel I donated was pissed away by them because they could act without consequences in the face of a week's worth of notices and RG even taking the time to walk the stands in the student section to remind them.

What is the point of waiting 60 seconds anyway? Is it so the visiting team has some time to get off the field to avoid any possible injuries/incidents? Do we go full Azteca Stadium and install barbed wire fences?

That's exactly why. So the other teams and the refs have a chance to clear out. Safety issue.

The ONLY way you can have a controlled field rush is to line the wall *shoulder to shoulder* with security and force them to wait. Since that ain't happening, without some unwanted issues, and students give zero ****s, it is what it is. AD can institute a $5 fee for something to all students next semester and recoup everything the lost and then some.

Do we get some cash for making the CCG? Is that included in the normal PAC-12 share?

Everything is shared evenly. We can make an extra $500k by losing on Friday to ensure that the Pac-12 puts a team in the Playoff. Maybe we need to in order to pay for the students rushing in order to sing about CSU in their exuberance.

This. Argus allowed the students onto the field. Expecting them all to stop at the magic Argus lines near the 30, once they are already on the field, is naive at best.

So, is it your contention that RG should have to hire enough security to link arms from the 40 yard line through the end zone while still having enough folks left over to ensure our security or take care of a health emergency in the rest of the stadium?

If the Pac-12 keeps this policy with fines, the only solution is to build up the wall because there's no way that students will wait 60 seconds or stop rushing. They consider it part of the experience.

I'm all in on raising student fees to stop that BS.

again, in the age of cheap HD cameras and inexpensive server storage space, just fine a couple hundred students who rush the field. no need to punish the entire student body. no need to build a wall. no need to shoot them. just fine everyone that can be positively identified.

I do agree that upgrading from Argus part-time security to real police would help immensely. It does seem like CU has less armed, uniformed police officers at games than most P5 stadiums that I've attended. This is the first time I've found that to be a negative, I have to admit.

If it is absolutely imperative to keep the students from celebrating their first PAC-12 division title on the field, then yes, that is my contention. I've personally seen Argus do that multiple times this season- granted those games weren't sold out, and they weren't technically linking arms.

But the bolded is really my point. If you want to keep the kids off the field, you need to take the necessary steps to do so. Politely asking a bunch of drunk students to rush the field, but wait 45 seconds between the 30 & 40 isn't overly practical.

That's the real problem. I don't know how you stop it without paying for a lot more security or erecting barriers. Maybe moving the students into a narrower area by taking away some 100 sections from their allotment while adding 200 sections?

If only there were an intelligent leader of said student fan group that was able to get all the students on board with rush or no rush etiquette. *cough* @StormTrooper *cough*
It's never happened at Coors to my knowledge. CSU does it every time they beat CU. I honestly hadn't even considered this until you people mentioned it. It shouldn't happen.

Just put this asterisk on student tickets, "$5 added fee for ****ers who can't listen or wait a whole 60 seconds".

35 going on 75.

That'd be lame as **** and trying to ticket thousands of drunk students wouldn't go over well at all. The Pac 12 needs to stop being a ****ing buzzkill and realize the AD has no control over fans rushing the field and fines are unwarranted.

This is the correct answer.

Nik...you can't be mad about that one. I saw a lot of grey hair and wrinkled faces on that field too. Be mad about the previous two.
