2018/19 Off-Season Lacrosse Thread (Season opener Feb. 9th)

Schedule released, and it's a good tough one for the #19 lax Buffs, with 3 of the 5 non-conference match-ups against teams ranked in the Inside Lacrosse media pre-season poll, starting the season off against #7 Florida (who beat the Buffs in the tourney last season), followed by #5 Stony Brook a couple weeks later, and then, in the mid-season, #23 Denver! (Great for Buff fans these 3 are all HOME matches this season.)

BOULDER — The University of Colorado lacrosse team does not shy away from tough competition and this year's schedule reflects just that as the Buffaloes will face six teams that were ranked in the final IWLCA top-25 poll this spring.

"I am really excited about this year's schedule and the opportunity we have to host some of nation's top teams at home," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Our team is excited about the challenges early on in our season and jumping right in. I believe our out of conference play will prepare us for our tough Pac-12 schedule."

The Buffs finished the 2018 season ranked 14th in the IWLCA Poll after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they fell to No. 6 Florida, which, coincidentally, the Buffs will play to open the season on February 9 at Kittredge Field in Boulder.

Congrats to the 4 named as captains this year!

(If I'm reading/ guessing the numbers right, looks like they are seniors OLIVIA ASCHMAN (defense), MIRANDA STINSON (midfield) and SOPHIE CASTILLO (attack), and junior goalie JULIA LISELLA.)

The other major (this one the coaches') pre-season poll out, and the Buffs are at #17.

Release: January 28, 2019

BOULDER — For the second straight season, the University of Colorado lacrosse team is ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Preseason Poll, which was released on Monday afternoon.

The Buffs were picked 17th after finishing the 2018 season with a 14-6 record, which included a 9-1 mark to win the regular season Pac-12 Championship. CU is the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the poll with Stanford coming in at 18th and Southern California at 21st. The Buffs are also ranked higher than in-state rival Denver, which came in 19th.

CU will open up its 2019 campaign on Saturday, Feb. 9, against No. 6 Florida at 12 p.m. at Kittredge Field. Prior to that contest, the Buffs will head to Evanston, Ill. to scrimmage No. 7 Northwestern on Friday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m.

Not a single word about the scrimmage on Friday against NW? I'm really curious about how that went. Has anyone heard anything?
