I love Bounds as the 2nd TE. Jones is going to be a matchup problem who has to see the field. But the guy who I think has all-conference talent as a complete TE is Poplawski. That dude can be special.
What his status with the injury?

I haven't heard about the knee. I did hear from someone who has seen him recently (and I believe that Adam & Ziskin talked about it on the podcast) that he has been hitting the weights hard and has transformed his upper body this offseason. Apparently looks huge and like a TE now.

A 2 TE set with him and Jones would really cause some problems for defenses, maybe even throw in a goofy pistol package where one comes out of the back field

I love lil' Mac in the slot and wish we had him healthy this year. He just gets open and catches the ball.

That said if Jones and/or Bounds can give us a legitimate receiving threat from the TE position we will be a much more effective offense. It will give Montez a quicker option to pick up key yardage and first downs and force defenses back to the middle of the field making our wide outs more effective and increasing the chances for big plays.

I think Chiv will turn out to be a much better play caller than BL and his recruits at WR play lights out for him. If we had great WR play last year we could’ve won 1-3 more games. Missing Taz is the big unknown...how deeply will his absence affect the team.

I say we have roughly the same yds per game but score a lot more
I wonder if it won’t help. The QB should be the leader. Taz could be a leader, but Sefo was the rock the team depended on. Taz without Sefo, I’m thinking Montez didn’t grasp his role properly. I’m hoping he will with Taz gone.

I do love how everyone just assumes Chev is already twice the play caller and game planner that Lindgren was. This is going to be a rough and swift fall from grace for Chev.
I think BL had good plans to start. But didn’t seem to make adjustments very well later in games. Almost seemed too cerebral and would make weird calls that seemed to stall the offense when we needed to just keep pressing what advantage we had. Almost like he outsmarted himself at times.

I’m hoping to see a simpler and aggressive offense that doesn’t let up. I hate seeing something done to build a lead and then change what we are doing and let the other team back in the game. I’m a fan of pedal to the metal until the final whistle blows. Hate trying to run the clock out and prevent defense.

I think that size along with JayMac always seeming to find wide open holes in the defense should help Montez’s completion % even if his accuracy isn’t any better.
More Hitches, tunnels, bubbles and flares will likely increase completion percentage too.

Yes, I like Pop. I’m not there with Jones at all, yet.

Not just the playbook. Effort, stiff hips, blocking, can’t catch ball below waist or away from body.

Great specimen. Not impressed the spring.
All of those problems you mentioned are most likely happening because he doesn't know what he is doing yet.

Maybe. But I’m talking about drills with Bernardi at open practice.

Trouble recovering fumble.
Trouble screen blocking DB.
Trouble flipping hips in straight line drill like OLBs do.

Bernardi got in his grill.

I think Jones should be viewed as more of the Jace Amaro-type TE. Rarely, if ever, an in-line, on the LOS player, but more playing from the slot and in the Red Zone specifically to create some favorable matchups.

Wait a minute. Aren't these deficiencies that would have surfaced through film study during the recruiting process? If everything you are saying is true. the coaches have done a terrible job in the recruitment of this young man.

He is raw. Very. I assume they think he has the ability to be coached up. And I think they believe he is the prototype for the slot TE, especially in RZ, as has been mentioned.

Slot is crowded depending on which scheme. Jay and KD could certainly be on the field together crowding out slot TE. Then he has position comp in Pop and Bounds.

Too many question marks at Oline to say our offense will be good, but I can't put a defensible argument together for us regressing on O. I do think we will prevail in close games due to more experience/coaching at QB and top notch kicking. Winning close games would have put us at 7-5 last year, so I think our offense will get us to a bowl this year.

They recruited on upside. 6'6"/255 players with some athleticism are not easily found.

It would be nice to get some more play action rollouts for Montez to allow those deeper routes to develop. That was one of the crazy things I saw when watching darnolds film for the draft, he has enough time to get to some very long developing routes and when you have that opportunity to show off your arm it can be special.
