2018 Offseason News: Pac-12 & CU Opponents

UCLA announced three OL are leaving the program. Like us, the Bruins are going to very young and have questionable depth on the OL all season. Sounds like there are at least a couple walk-ons who will potentially make the traveling squad and as many as three true freshmen OL could play.

Not a recipe for a quick start with a really tough first five games IMO.

Edit: Reading more on the story, sounds like Kelly straight up cut at least three of the four players that were announced to be leaving.
Kelly acting like a coach with a lot of job security and pulling no punches with his house cleaning. Got to figure they'll get worse before they get better. I expect 2018 to be a rough season in Westwood.

He was arrested after shattering the front door of a Panda Express at 3 in the morning with a couple high school teammates. Dumb dumb dumb.

Been known for a while, but now official:

Demetris Robertson - WR - Bulldogs
Cal redshirt sophomore WR Demetris Robertson transferred to Georgia.
The Bulldogs landed Robertson -- a native of Savannah -- over fellow finalists Alabama, Texas and West Virginia. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder initially announced his intent to transfer from the Golden Bears in late June. Coming out of high school, Rivals ranked him as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2016 class. He logged a 50-767-7 receiving line as a true freshman and likely would have topped those numbers last season had he not been waylaid by a lower-body injury which cut the campaign short after just two games. Per Rivals, Robertson is "expected" to apply for a hardship waiver to give him a year of eligibility back, though it should be noted that it's unclear at this juncture whether this would mean immediate eligibility. Regardless, this is a boon of a landing for HC Kirby Smart and staff.

Adrian Martinez - QB - Cornhuskers
Nebraska HC Scott Frost told reporters on Monday that he'd like to name a starting quarterback a week before the season begins.
Frost also said that he won't rush the process, which is unsurprising. It's a three way battle between Adrian Martinez, Tristan Bebbia and Andrew Bunch. Martinez offers the most upside in our eyes, but he's also a freshman, and Frost may not want to rush him if he's not ready. Bunch was the top performer in the spring game, so our guess is it comes down to Bunch vs. Martinez. Nebraska opens the year against Akron on September 1.

Tate purposefully shaped the coaching search.

I think there should be some input on coaching searches from high profile/elite level players, but a 18/19/20 year old shouldn't be allowed to have a heavy influence on the single most important decision an AD can make, and one that could make or break the health of an AD for years to come. Tate was not looking out for the interest of Arizona in the long run; he was looking out for his own interests over the next two years and how the hire will affect his NFL draft status. I'm all for players having a seat at the table, but they can't be indirectly in charge.

Taariq Johnson - WR - Golden Bears
Cal redshirt freshman WR Taariq Johnson has left the team.
That makes two notable notable losses in the receiving corp for the Golden Bears this month, with former five-star WR Demetris Robertson's transfer to Georgia making FBS-wide waves. Johnson (6'2/213) doesn't represent that kind of loss, but thins the depth all the more so in the receiving room. He was considered a potential breakout player for the coming campaign due to his upside as a red zone threat. Kanawai Noa and Vic Wharton III are expected to work as starters for the coming season, while UM transfer Moe Ways and Nikko Remigio are names to monitor in August camp. Should injuries mount at receiver next month, that would be problematic.

Going to bite UA hard down the road. I think they are over hyped this year but not to the degree of ASU back in 2011..."It's Time".

I think it's either Gebbia or Bunch who gets the initial nod and Martinez finishes up the season. Also keep in mind the new redshirt rule where a true frosh can play in four games and keep his redshirt.
