2018 Pac 12 Track and Field Championships (Stanford; Multi-events, 5/5-6, remainder 5/12-13)

EXCELLENT results in the women's 400M hurdles - junior Gabby Scott finishes 2nd! And, sophomore Eriana Henderson also gets on the board with her 6th place finish. Believe that works out to 11 points overall for the women.

Uh oh- Buff freshman Aaron McCoy, who impressively qualified for the final in the 400M hurdles, unfortunately pulls up and falls in the 1st half of the finals and looks to grab his hamstring area. Hope nothing too major is wrong.

Some nice points by the women, all of whom were doubling back from other races, in the 5000M. Erin Clark gets 3rd, Sage Hurta 4th and Makena Morley 7th for a total of 13 points.
(Bummer for senior Kaitlyn Benner, who was also in the lead group but got her legs tangled with another runner(s) and fell just as the pace picked up, so she wasn't able to make it back into scoring position. She still runs hard, however, and finishes 10th.)

So awesome- in the men's 5000M, Buffs go 1-2-5, with multi-time All-American senior Ben Saarel, the Pac track Scholar-Athlete of the year (see post #10 of this thread), comes through with a great last lap surge to win, with Zach Perrin 2nd and Ryan Forsyth, who took the lead early in the last lap to start the Buff stampede, also finishing in the points at 5th!!!!

In the last event of the women's meet, the traditional 4X400M relay, the Buffs I believe finish 6th overall.

Unofficially, the Buffs end up in 4th overall (vs. 3rd last year). Given the absence of a couple of their top runners, a very solid result as they finish just 2 points behind last year's 78 points. Congrats to all the athletes and coaches!!!

Well- the men's 4X400M is over, and the Buffs get 5th. In an almost identical story to the women, the men also finish the Championships almost identical to last year (5th place this year vs. 4th place this year, 72 points this year vs. 73 points last year), while missing a couple top runners. Congrats to all the athletes and coaches!

Buffs Finish in Top Five at Pac-12 Championships

Colorado's track and field team finished the weekend with impressive scores

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Colorado's track and field teams ended the weekend at the Pac-12 Championships on a great note here Sunday, as the women finished fourth overall and the men fifth.

Both finishes were the second-best in by each team in the seven years since CU joined the Pac-12 back in 2011. USC won the women's title with 170 points, while Oregon claimed the men's crown with 174; the CU women scored 76 points, while the men had 72.

"We did a little better on both genders than I expected to," Head Coach Mark Wetmore said. "We outran my projections by maybe 20 points on each side, so a good day for us. We got points from a lot of different event areas, which is the only way you can be successful here, you can't be a one dimensional team."
...

"All in all, very pleased with how both teams, great efforts on both sides," Wetmore said.

The finishes were next to last year's efforts of third by the women and fourth by the men as CU continues to settle in as a member of the Pac-12, one of the nation's premier track and field conferences.
