2021/22 MEN'S GOLF Golf regular season news, results and discussion (Team next in Sammamish, Wash. for Pac 12 Championships April -25-28)

Don't know if they've always done this- but sounds like a fun way to increase a student-athlete's competitiveness. The team is having an intersquad tourney to determine the last 2 who get to play in the next big tourney (which is at Stanford).

Horrible loss

A sad, sad story. One of the kids played at Ralston Valley. Reminds me of the kids from the Wyoming Cross Country team who died in a head on collision and the youth hockey team in Canada.
 
The Buffs finished middle of the pack (both overall and vs. the 7 Pac 12 teams competing) against a good field at Stanford -

PALO ALTO, Calif. — The University of Colorado men's golf team never caught fire as a group here Saturday and slipped five spots in the standings into a 14th place finish as Stanford's "The Goodwin" came to a close.

No. 9 Washington rallied for the win, firing the best round of the day (a 10-under 270) to finish with a 22-under 818 score. No. 47 Nevada snuck into second (821), ahead of host and No. 14 Stanford (823), which had led after the first two rounds. No. 51 SMU slipped from second into fourth (824) with Oregon rounding out the top five (828).

Colorado had jumped from 14th into ninth after the second round, but turned in a 6-over 286 score in the final round to finish at 1-over par 841. While not far off from the average score (284), going into the day the Buffs were optimistic they could go low as they did on Friday when CU had the fourth-best score of the day.

"It just wasn't a very good day overall, though we did get off to a pretty good start," head coach Roy Edwards said. "We just weren't able to keep it going. Jack and Kris had nice rounds, but we didn't play the par-5s very well and made a few too many big numbers.

"Jack had a really nice tournament, which is what we have been seeing in a lot in qualifying," Edwards continued. "Kris did as well. Justin played great the first couple of days but just had a rough patch in today's round, really the first time this year for him. But overall, the team keeps getting better and definitely took a step forward this week."

Nevada's Peyton Callens captured medalist honors with a 13-under 197 score, besting UC Davis; Lucas Carper, who was tied for the lead going into the day, by one stroke.

The Buffaloes return to action in two weeks, heading to Chandler, Ariz., to play in Wyoming's Cowboy Classic on April 4-5. It will be CU's final tune-up ahead of next month's Pac-12 Championships in Sammamish, Wash., April 25-27.
