I kept on forgetting to start this thread, but I always like to set up these threads for all the sports to account for any off-season and spring (for this sport) scrimmage and training period news.

With the 2022 season over for a few months, there will be a little catch-up to do, so there might be quite a few posts in quick succession.

1st, just a quick look back with some summary numbers from this past season:
Record - 8-7-5 overall; 2-6-3 in Pac 12 play, which equaled them ending up in a 3 way tie for 9th place in the conference with 9 points.
RPI - After the NCAA Tournament concluded in early December***, the Buffs ended up with a #69 RPI (per https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa-womens-soccer-rpi)
Massey - #40

(***Not nearly as excited now as I would have been before their not-to-bright AD decided to leave the Pac 12, but still want to congratulate the UCLA TEAM for winning another NCAA Championship. If anyone likes exciting soccer matches, they might want to hunt down highlights of the championship match. It looks like the Bruins had a crazy comeback, being down 2-0 to North Carolina until around 10 minutes left in the match, when UCLA scored their 1st. Then, if I remember the highlight correctly, they scored the tying goal off a corner kick with around 20-30 SECONDS left in regulation. Then, they scored the match and championship winner relatively late (107th minute) in the 2nd overtime.)

The most recent Buff soccer news was regarding a couple now #ForeverBuffs going pro.

Congratulations to Civana Kuhlmann for being a 4th round draft pick of the Washington Spirit NWSL team, and Hannah Sharts for signing a contract with the KuPS team in the Finish National League!

And, some awards and recognition earned by a couple individual Buffs for their work ON the field -

And, some honors earned for work on the field AND in the classroom, as well as 3 soccer Buffs who graduated after this past semester -

Are they re-doing the soccer field in the spring? 3 road games, neutral field in Denver, and then Kittredge as the lone home game.

Starting lineup for the 1st intersquad scrimmage this spring season competed earlier today.

Shyra will most likely be the team's leading goal scorer next season. She struggled last season in conference games and needs to get past that if thee Buffs are going to have a shot at the NCAA tourney.

Congrats to Coach Sanchez!

COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado soccer head coach Danny Sanchez, already a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Hall of Famer, will again be inducted along with his 2004 and 2006 Metro State DII national championship teams.

The two Roadrunner squads will be part of the 2023 Hall of Fame class, officially inducted during a ceremony on Thursday, July 13 inside the Courtyard by Marriott in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"I was honored to work with two very different teams that both ended up as deserving national champions," said Sanchez. "Although these teams had different paths to a title, they shared the unrelenting desire to be the best.

"The success of these fantastic women wouldn't have happened without a great support staff, led by [former MSU Denver Athletic Director] Joan McDermott. Joan never wavered in her support of our student-athletes and coaches. Joan knew what it took to win national championships and she gave us all the tools to make it happen."

Sanchez was previously inducted into the RMAC Hall of Fame in 2018.

Article about the 2 Buffs' call-up -

"
CHICAGO – Colorado Juliauna Hayward and Jordan Nytes were two of 46 players selected for call-ups to the overlapping U.S. U-18/U-19 and U-20 Women's Youth National Team training camps on Monday.

Hayward, a rising sophomore, will participate in the combined U-18/U-19 camp from April 12-19, while Nytes, also a rising sophomore, will be at the U-20 camp from April 15-22. Both camps will be held across WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., the University of North Carolina and Duke University.

"This camp is a great opportunity for Juliauna and Jordan to reestablish themselves in the National Team program," head coach Danny Sanchez noted. "They both had fantastic freshmen seasons and have earned this call-up. We are excited to have them represent Colorado soccer on this stage."

Hayward, a 2022 Pac-12 All-Freshman selection, recorded eight points (2 G, 4 A) in 14 games last season for CU. The Broomfield, Colo., native, was also a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-Pacific Region honoree in her rookie season. Hayward scored in her collegiate debut against Weber State and had a tally for the Buffs against Arizona State. She missed the final six matches of the year due to an injury.

Nytes, who transferred from Oklahoma State at the start of the semester, was the Co-Big Eight Goalkeeper of the Year for the Cowgirls. The Grandview H.S. graduate started all 17 matches she appeared in last season and played 1,475 minutes in net for the Cowgirls. Nytes authored six solo shutouts and was a part of three others. Her six shutouts tied for the eighth most in OSU history. She boasted a Big-12 best .841 save%, allowing just 11 goals against and making 58 saves. Nytes wrapped up the season with a 0.96 goals-against average.

During the four-day overlap between the camps, the teams will scrimmage against each other while U.S. U-20 Women's Youth National Team head coach Tracey Kevins will evaluate all 46 players in preparation for choosing a 21-player roster that will compete in the 2023 Concacaf Women's Under-20 Championship which will be held from May 25-June 4 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Carrie Kveton will be the head coach for the U-19/U-18 camp while Kevins will run the U-20 camp.

Unlike the past few Concacaf youth tournaments, this year's U-20 tournament format will no longer feature an unwieldy 20 teams and will return to its original eight-team format that features two groups of four teams each. The teams will play a round-robin within the groups with the top two finishers in each group advancing to the semifinals. The top three teams – the two finalists and the winner of the third-place match – will qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup.

All the players in both camps are age-eligible for the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, the host of which has yet to be determined, which will feature players born on or after Jan. 1, 2004.

The U-20 camp features 14 players born in 2004, eight players born in 2005 and one – forward Onyeka Gamero, who was one of the standouts at the 2022 U-17 Women's World Cup – who was born in 2006. The U-19/U-18 camp features 10 players born in 2004 and 13 born in 2005.

BOULDER — Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez announced two additions to his staff for the 2023 season on Wednesday. Jorden Smith will take over the Director of Player Development role, while Jacy Drobney returns to the program for her second stint as a Volunteer Assistant.

"Jorden is a great addition to our staff," Sanchez stated. "We love her background. She has been a head coach of women and men at the collegiate level. Jorden has coached JUCO, Division II and Division I. Her vast experiences will greatly serve her in her role as our Director of Player Development."

Smith joins the Buffs after spending the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Midwestern State (DII). Smith also has served in an assistant coach role at Sam Houston State (2019-21), Angelina College (2016-17) and Cisco College (2014-15).

Smith helped build both the men's and women's programs at Blinn College, serving as the head coach for both the men's and women's teams. In her first season, she led the men to six wins and an NJCAA Region XIV semifinal appearance while also guiding the women to four wins.

Smith started her playing career at Cisco College (2009-11), where she was captain and earned All-Conference honors in both seasons. She closed her collegiate career with two years at Lubbock Christian, earning her bachelor's degree in exercise science in May 2013.

Drobney, a former Oregon State standout, previously served as a volunteer assistant for the Buffs from 2017-19.

"It is great to have Jacy back on staff," Sanchez expressed. "She did a fantastic job in her previous stint. Jacy has a great knowledge of the game. She made the transition from Pac-12 player to professional in her playing days. Her experiences playing overseas it a great asset to our student-athletes that have similar aspirations."

Drobney was a four-year starter for the Beavers. She captained OSU for three seasons and earned All-Pac-12 honors and helped Oregon State to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Drobney graduated in 2013 and played two seasons for TSG Hoffenheim in Germany before venturing into coaching.

Drobney, a Longmont, Colo., native, graduated from Silver Creek High School in 2010, lettering in both soccer and basketball.

Colorado has three spring dates left before breaking for the season. The Buffs will be at Kansas State on Saturday. The team will then partake in the second spring edition of the Colorado Cup (April 15) hosted at the University of Denver. The Buffs will close the spring with its only home match, hosting Nebraska on April 22 (11 a.m./Kittredge Field), as part of the Black & Gold Day festivities.

BUSY day for the team with multiple (I assume?) mini-scrimmages (???) scheduled as part of the Colorado Cup, hosted by DU this year, with the 1st (vs.UC- Colorado Springs) just begun at the top of the hour.

CU advances to the Colorado Cup final after going 1-1 this morning.

Per their twitter account, they opened up losing to UC- Colorado Springs, but bounced back from a 1-1 halftime tie to win big, 6-1, over Colorado College, with the Buff scorers being Duguid, James, Lister.(2), Gonzales and Beyer.

Buffs retain the Colorado Cup with a 2-1 win over the Pioneers. Once again the Buff soccer Twitter account, a 1st half goal by Layne gave CU the lead, DU tied it later in the 1st, and then James scored late in the 2nd to give the Buffs the win and Cup!
