2023-24 Coaching Carousel (Fitzgerald out, DC Braun interim at Northwestern)

He acted immaturely, sure. That doesn't make me want to see him fail for the rest of his football career.
There isn't a successful head coach out there that doesn't have an ego, Chev just let his ego get in the way of his relationship with his boss at CU.

Considering the giant cluster we saw it's understandable that he though he could have done a better job, again most guys with ambitions to be a head coach would have. He just let his ambition get in the way of what he was doing.

Now he's paying his dues to work his way back up towards his goal of being a BCS level head coach. The wins and losses will determine how far he goes.

Paul Finebaum thinks Harbaugh is done at Michigan and will announce after the CFP title game.

I think Harbaugh is headed back to the NFL too given he hired Yee as his agent.
Perfect scenario

Washington Wins
Harbaugh resigns and goes and coaches the Chargers
Sherrone Moore gets the Michigan job and adds to the AA coaching numbers
Finebaum loses his voice forever

i liked Chev as a player more than a coach. I always felt his connection to Leach and the "Air Raid" lineage was both a bit overblown and a bit self-promotional. he wasn't Graham Harrell or Kliff Kingsbury. his wiki page lists him as special teams coordinator, which he apparently did an excellent job for 1 maybe 2 years. no one was going to poach him except us.

that said, I hope he succeeds at NE Oklahoma, sounds like a tough place to win. I hope keeps his career trajectory on the up. If he earns the hell out of it, I would pull for him at CU. but, I am tired of back to the past hires for the Buffs.

CP has brought us back to where we were (as a national program of interest, we'll see if he keeps us there)....we don't have to be parochial.

does KJ Jefferson to UCF mean Malachi Nelson to Miami? tho there are red flags all over MN, Riley Qbs lately (or at least them going elsewhere.....Tanner Mordecai, Chandler morris, Rattler, etc)....and Miami with Van **** leaving....but the U is the U. sometimes the 7 wins, being ranked undeservedly, overhyped by ESPN and south Beach is the game.

I think KJ is a good get for Gus.

hard to grade Prime....he's A all the way in some ways, less by a lot in others.

me, I used to teach college.....I found it uncomfortable to "grade" people....and so I won't. here. heh.

zach arnett didn't have much of a chance. the Pirate is larger than life and ZA was hired to coach not replace the Pirate. he'll get a shot somewhere back to being a coach not HC at an SEC school. i'll root for him.

Ryan Walters lost his best WR in the portal to Oklahoma and his best DL is also in the portal. hard to get better in the P5 these days when your best players bolt.

At best these are mid-term grades. A coach is generally hired to build a program, not to be a one year wonder.

The real grade will come in 2-3 years when we see what these guys have built on the field.

KJ is a good get for Gus but there are so many UCF players that have to be replaced.

I think the angle for teams like Purdue will have to be some variation of, "We get you onto the field against B1G competition, if you produce, you can go grab an NIL bag elsewhere."

I'm not so sure that with or without the transfer portal that it would be anything short of a miracle for Purdue to finish top 3 in an expanded B1G.

Ted Roof will always be funny to me because he has the ignominy of being the ONLY P5* head coach ever retained after going 0-12, and he had gone 1-10 the season prior. He went an astounding 6-45 as head coach and 3-33 in conference. I honestly don't think those numbers will ever be equaled.

*note: Duke *technically* counts as a P5 school. If you want to understand what a herculean result Cutcliffe delivered in his first 6 seasons there, look at what preceded him. Carl Franks and Ted Roof produced 10 wins in 9 seasons (not a typo; averaged a 1-10 season). Cutcliffe surpassed that total with his first win in season 3, took Duke to their first bowl in 20 years in season 4, and got them 10 wins and their first season-ending ranking in 50 years in season 6.

Looks like a tough offseason for the Sooners coming off that bowl loss to Arizona.
