June 10th update:

RB room now looks niiiiice.

78 scholarships awarded. Probably still need a vet QB, some TEs and more CBs. Plus we're low on OL numbers. But we're pretty much there.

I'm still only doing scholarship roster because I have no idea which walk-ons will be invited to fall camp or to join the team once fall classes start.

Two guys I think they'd want back who have graduated are Chance Main (DE) and Tommy Brown (OG). Both would be in the senior class if they returned.

In that senior class listing right now is Maurice Bell (WR) who has not been granted his application for an additional medical year from the NCAA.

The thing that's really jumping out to me is the glaring need at DT. There's no guarantee that Sami and Rodman return and there were no recruit signings. Numbers are low and there's a ton of work to be done on this.

Other things that stand out and I'd expect something to give:

- 8 freshman WRs (attrition? moves to DB?)
- 4 sophomore TEs
- OL could lose some Jr (4) and So (6) to replace with another Sr (1) and more FR (1) to balance things up
- DT needs FR and vets
- DE probably sees some attrition since you don't bring in 4 & bump the numbers to the high side if you like what you have
- DB numbers look a bit low so maybe WR position changes, additional recruits, and maybe a transfer (also Oakie could end up at LB)

On class balance, I'd love to find a way through grad transfers and a couple guys returning to get that number in the 12-15 range. I hate going into a season with only 8 seniors and what that might do to limit 2024 recruiting when the first full class after season 1 is often when a new HC sees his biggest recruiting bump. For this reason, I'd be really good with loading up on grad transfers to replace spring attrition we're expecting or will have to adapt to.

yes yes credit to Brian

However, I also feel compelled to point out:

Tight ends (6)

Returners: Caleb Fauria, So.; Erik Olsen, So.; Louis Passarello, So.; Austin Smith, So.; Zach Courtney, Fr.

Newcomers: Seydou Traore, Jr.

Note: With Brady Russell graduating, there isn’t much experience coming back. Traore could slide in as the top target. He was first-team All-Sun Belt at Arkansas State this year. Fauria and Olsen showed great potential this season.

MLC, Ty Robinson and M.Bell may have been over recruited. They better show up to play in the spring or they aren't going to make it.

Poster in the know on 247 mentioned Brown is graduating and moving on.

You also have to wonder what kind of role Jayle Stacks has? I don't see a FB/HB type of player in Lewis' offense

Tommy Brown? Came in as a grad transfer. So basically he is free to do whatever he wants.

Wonder if he just made this decision. I spotted him in Prime’s infamous introductory meeting with all the players.

This is a first run as we have moved past Early Signing Day and try to keep track of the CU roster for 2023.

12/26 Update (only includes scholarship roster). Credit to Brian Howell and Buffzone for confirming or clearing up a lot of this info: LINK

* Note: Adam has the classes various transfers are in with a lot of difference in his 247sports chart: LINK. I don't think this will get accurate until the roster update happens at the official team site where the team roster is currently blank: LINK.

Also, I'd usually have the info on eligibility on if a guy has redshirted or not but with the transfers it's a bit much right now. For this one, it's just the freshmen to differentiate between new signings and returning redshirts. It will get updated in future edits. (Has redshirted = * after the name)

Most glaring needs to me are safety and DT's. Need a transfer another transfer safety.

Yes, he is done with football/School and moving on with his life, supposedly

Wonder if he just made this decision. I spotted him in Prime’s infamous introductory meeting with all the players.
If he finished his master's degree requirements, in the 2 semesters he was here, he probably applied for graduation. If he was granted a degree then to play another season he would have to apply for a different masters program or be accepted as a doctorate candidate. Likely he chose to call it a career and enter life as an underwear model.

With all the hype (rightfully so) of our recruiting efforts and the transfer portal it's easy to take a broad stroke overhaul of the roster perspective, so I thought it'd be interesting to list 2022 Buffs we're looking forward to see compete in the upcoming offseason.

1. RB Hankerson, could be our beefy RB in '23
2. WR MLC, 2nd most experienced WR behind Horn Jr., I like his character
3. DT Sami, BEASTY, especially in a competitive climate
4. LB Aubrey Smith, highly recruited out of HS, has some position versatility
5. S Woods, battled the entire season, he wins the job

1. Hankerson as the beefy RB would seem to fit with the guys Lewis is going after for his offense.
2. Big red flag that shows there needs to be an influx of WR transfers as well as 2023 freshmen.
3. Always room for a guy with his size and athleticism. CU's DT's were notoriously slow per opposing coaches in 2022.
4. Dunno
5. With a 4-2-5 defense he might have some PT but expect him to be recruited over. Valuable depth guy and ST player if he sticks with CU.

Bedell was a philosophy major? I'm kind of impressed in a those who forget how to long snap are doomed to repeat it sort of way.

Isaiah Lewis had been looking at potentially getting another year (medical waiver). He had also looked at transferring, which I believe he'd said prior to Coach Prime accepting the CU job. He is officially done with his college career, which simplifies the Safety room some and also simplifies the emotions of having to see a Buff in a different college uniform.

One of the few bright spots last season, imo. Be nice to see what some of these players can actually do with proper coaching.
The basic coaching he's never seen:

1. Being able to trust teammates to know and follow their assignments.
2. Being coordinated correctly for the opponent - including actually getting the calls in time (Wilson was so bad the D captains often had to make the call).
3. Being put in the best position to succeed based upon player skillset and the situation with scheme adapted to talent.

I counted everyone on the eligibility chart, and we are sitting quite a few over 85 as of now not counting the new RB. How many have we went into spring over in the past?

2-4 spots?

Have to figure at least 1 WR, 1 RB, 1-2 TE's, 1 OL , 1 DL and 1-2 DB's might be moving on to get down to 85. The Depth/Competition across most of the team is going to create a much better team. I'm excited.

Ok. I’ve been trying to understand how this works. We have to be AT (or under) 85 “on campus” for Spring, but most of the Freshman signees aren’t on campus till Summer/Fall. So we can be over 85 “signed” as long as we aren’t over 85 “on campus,” right?
That’s how we can keep signing people during this next window, right? But we have to get rid of some players after Spring ball before summer/fall.

Yes, I believe they have to be enrolled to count against the 85. Sounds like a very tricky juggling act.

You can have no more than 85 scholarship players on campus during any given semester

Am i wrong in thinking there was some kind of exception when you had a new coach? Like 5 extra players or something weird. Maybe i dreamt that 🤦‍♂️
