2023 Women's Basketball off-season thread

Betts has her choice of where she wants to go. If she wants to play for the national championship, I know Iowa is in need of someone like her now that Cziano has used all of her eligibility.

need to find a wing shooter and get betts
Agree that this would be ideal. This team needs more three point threats, period. Last season Miller (until the end of the season) and Formann were the two reliable three point shooters. Wetta did hit a couple of critical treys, but both she and Sherrod were reluctant shooters from beyond the arc. Sounds like incoming freshman Kennedy Sanders could be a reliable threat from three point range.

Perhaps the biggest issue the team faced last season was getting a good shot off once the shot clock got under about 12 seconds. Having three good long range shooters on the court could help with this issue.

Concerning the potential of Lauren Betts, I wonder if she and Aaronette Vonleh could play at the same time? Quay Miller is a lock to start at power forward next season which means there is space for only one of Betts and Vonleh with Miller on the court. But when Miller comes out then there is a place for one of them join the other.

Two questions about Vonleh and Betts playing at the same time - can one of them cover a quicker opponent on the perimeter? and can either one score from outside of 5 feet?

If Betts comes to CU Is Bri McLeod a portal risk as well? Can’t quite remember if McLeod was subbing for AV or for Quay, or both.

Nolan ended her four years as a Wolverine at seventh on the all-time 3-pointers list and ninth in terms of 3-point percentage among eligible players. In addition to her abilities beyond the arc, Nolan displayed more three-level scoring in her senior season and was often hailed as one of Michigan’s best defenders.

Nolan looks to be exactly what the Buffs need to improve their half court offense. Her three point shooting is gonna be key. Looks like shee='ll bee solid on defense too.

There's going to be a lot of competition for playing time amongst the perimeter players next season. Formann, Nolan, Sadler, Sherrod, Wetta and freshman Kennedy Sanders will all be in the mix.

The Santa Clara Kelly Graves connection. I hope this works out well as JR's other hires from those days seem to have worked well.

Anyone see the article about KennedyLeonard in the daily camera??

She looks so happy in the picture and it’s great to see her doing so well. She should get a lot of credit IMO for helping create the culture and team we have now. Her positivity really shines through and I hope she continues to be a big supporter of our Buffs for a long time.

Looks like another potentially valuable pick-up from the transfer portal for the Buffs, as per the below tweets they've picked up 6'1" junior wing Sara-Rose Smith, who's been attending and playing at Missouri. She hails from Victoria, Australia. (Although I don't see anything formal on cubuffs.com yet, since the Buffzone/ Brian Howell article is quoting Coach Payne, assume this has officially happened.)

It looks like Ms. Smith was mainly the 6th player (AKA 1st player off the bench) for the Tigers, although she did start 5 games last season. Most notably, she led Mizzou in rebounding at 6.7 per game, while "only" playing 21.7 minutes per game for the 18-14 Tigers. She also averaged 6.7 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
(She's played 3 years at Missouri, but with one of those being the 2020/21 Covid year, assume she has 2 years of eligibility if she and the coaches want that.

One note- in the wbbblog.com's listing for her in his transfer section for the Buffs (at https://wbbblog.com/womens-basketball-transfers-d-i-2022-23/4/), it does state she "entered portal after close of transfer portal". I have no idea what if anything that could mean regarding her ability to play next season, but assume the Buffzone article would have noted something if there was a question whether or not she was not going to be eligible next season.?.)

OFFICIAL Welcome and congrats to her!
