2024-25 Coaching Carousel

Well, if they're gonna count the Gator and Sun as major bowl wins under Freeman then the 2018 Citrus Bowl win under BK certainly qualifies as a major bowl win, not to mention that ND also won the Sun Bowl under BK. Also, ND didn't win a BCS or NYD bowl game since 1994 before Kelly got there.

But, narratives.
I'm not sure how they get to three. I assume two are the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl wins this last season, but the third one is unclear.

I'm calling the 3 a typo and it should have been 2.

Doesn't make it any less funny!

not a fan of Kelly, but the criteria seems a little preferential.

I do like the Sun Bowl, though. Cool stadium and the food is great in El Paso. But it has never been a major bowl.

The bowl thing was overstated and slanted.

However...

Kelly said he left Notre Dame because the policies there made it so it would be almost impossible to win a national championship but that LSU gave him all a coach could want.

What we have learned is that the problem is Kelly. He's an excellent football coach who is not an elite football coach.

Kelly is the winningest coach in ND history and his teams won 10 or more games in 6 of his last 7 years there. But there's certainly an argument to be made that he has underachieved at LSU so far, especially after making the SEC title game in his first season in Baton Rouge. With one of the better QB's in the SEC and all the talent he brought in via the portal the pressure is on for him to get to the CFP this year. He certainly wasn't hired at LSU to just have very good seasons and then miss out on the CFP. And remember their last 3 coaches all won a national titles and 2 of them arguably were just above average coaches.

Who are we calling elite? I would say no current coaches are in the elite category. Saban, Spurrier, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll off the top of my head. Dabo has 2 national titles and numerous other CFP appearances but not many would call him elite. Kirby? Probably not, but both are on the cusp of being in that elite category. Everyone's gonna have a different version of elite, it's a subjective term. To me it's a very selective term.

You don't consider Dabo, Kirby or Day to be elite?
