With women's golf being one of those Buff sports that has MANY tournaments in both the fall and spring semesters, I wanted to set up a thread that as normal we can use to cover anything that comes up on and off the course related to the team up through the Big 12 Championships (scheduled to begin April 15th, 2025 in Houston). (I'll give the NCAA Championships their own thread if/ when the Buffs' team earns a regional berth.)

I'm starting this thread now as last week the team has released its current (academic) year schedule (https://cubuffs.com/sports/womens-golf/schedule) Per that, the 1st tournament is scheduled to be in University Place (Seattle) Washington Sept. 16-17.

A tweet with the schedule as it now stands -

Looks like the team had a kind of rough final round but still finished middle of the pack at their 1st tourney of the year.

Team going back to one of their old (conference) haunts starting today.

Buffs Continue Fall At Stanford Intercollegiate

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

BOULDER
— The Colorado women's golf team has had a great fall season competing against some very good teams, but this weekend the level ratchets up a notch.

The Buffaloes are set to compete at The Stanford Intercollegiate, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Oct. 18-20 at the Stanford Golf Course, surrounded by a who's-who in NCAA women's golf. Twelve of the 19 teams competing rank in the top 50 of the first NCAA Division I rankings released just this week including six in the top 20 and three top 10 squads led by the No. 3-ranked host Cardinal. All but one are in the top 80 including the Buffaloes who debuted at No. 73.

Colorado is riding high after an impressive third-place finish at the Ron Moore Invitational in Highlands Ranch two weeks ago. The Buffaloes improved each round, going from 7-over and in 13th place after 18 holes, to 3-under in the second and finally 7-under in the third to jump 10 spots in the standings.

The competition heightens this week at the 6,278-yard, par 71, Stanford Golf Course, but the Buffaloes are ready.

"The team has done such a good job putting in the work in practice and we've done so much preparation around creating on-course simulations that have prepared them for events like this, to play against the best," said Colorado assistant coach Mia Landegren who continues to lead the program while head coach Madeleine Sheils is out on maternity leave.

"This course speaks for itself. You have to be very patient off the tee. It can get windy. But I hope they have the confidence to know they can hang with such a good field, but not getting ahead of themselves and being very present in the moment. An also just enjoying playing with such good players, knowing they can compete against them."

Colorado's top five golfers in terms of stroke average will make up the lineup this week, and all have been a model of consistency to say the least. The Buffaloes have stayed away from the large numbers for the most part and all five are hovering right around even-par for their season stroke totals.

Less than two strokes per 18 holes separates this group and all have shown early flashes. All five have at least one sub-par round in the 60s on their respective resumes this season.
....

Colorado will open tournament play on Friday, pairing with No. 63 Oregon State, beginning off the No. 1 tee at 8:30 a.m. MT. For the second round on Saturday, the Buffaloes and Beavers will begin at the No. 10 tee with the pairings set to start at 12:45 p.m. Sunday's final round will feature a shot gun start at 9:30 a.m.

CU improved every round relative to the field and end up in a tie for 8th out of 19 schools in what was a solid field. (They were the top unrated finisher, and tied or defeated 5 ranked teams.)

Buffs Finish Strong At Stanford

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

STANFORD, Calif.
— Another Sunday, another strong performance by the Colorado women's golf team.

For the second-straight tournament the Buffaloes made a giant leap on the final day of competition, this time using a 1-over-par round against a loaded field to finish tied for eighth at the Stanford Intercollegiate which wrapped up Sunday at the Stanford Golf Course.

Colorado finished the 54-hole event at 21-over 873, vaulting up six spots during Sunday's final round. The Stanford Intercollegiate featured 12 of the top 50 teams in the nation with the Buffaloes eventually topping four of those squads and matching No. 41 UC Davis.
...
Two weeks ago, the Buffaloes had their best round of the season to leap four spots in the final standings of the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at Highlands Ranch. The parallel between the two tournaments was a considerable improvement each day. Colorado went 3-over, 3-under, 7-under over three rounds at Ron Moore. The Buffaloes' progression at Stanford was 13-over, 7-over, 1-over.

"This team does a really good job of getting feedback, taking it seriously and then making big leaps from day to day," Colorado assistant coach Mia Landegren said. "We just have to learn how to capitalize on that earlier and get that momentum started before the last day. But it's good for them to see they can play on these challenging courses with these good fields; it's a great thing for them to see they are capable of competing."

No one showed that more on Sunday than sophomore Carolyn Fuller who shaved off 10 strokes from her second round with a 1-under 70 on Sunday. After starting with six-straight pars, she fell to 1-over with a bogey on the par-3 third but played mistake free after that. Fuller gained back two strokes with birdies at the seventh and 13th and in the process jumped 22 spots in the final standings, tying for 68th overall at 13-over.

"That was a really big bounce back by Carolyn," Landegren said. "Coming off an 80, you can either sulk or do something about it, and she did something about it. A different player today, was very proud of her. She had complete trust in herself and her capabilities."

Freshman Sydney Givens had Colorado's low 54-hole score for the second straight tournament finishing in a tie for 14th at 1-under 212 following a 69 in the final round. Her day started a little slow, sitting at 2-over through six holes, but consecutive birdies at the par-4 second and par-3 third swung the momentum as she finished with five birdies over her final 12 holes.

Senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch tied for 26th overall at 2-over 215, shooting a 74 in the final round. Junior Morgan Miller tied for 51st at 9-over following a round of 72 on Sunday. Sophomore Vanessa Ngo tied for 78th at 17-over, shooting a 76 in the final round.

USC's Jasmine Koo took medalist honors at 11-under, one shot better than her teammate Catherine Park.

Colorado will wrap up the fall portion of its season at the Nanea Invitational, Oct. 28-30, at the Nanea Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i.

Team is still in 5th heading into today's final round. (They'll still need to perform well to keep their position, and a BIG gap has developed between their (5th) place and the 4 teams ahead of them. The 4th place team is 17 strokes ahead of CU, while the 10th place team is within 11 strokes.)

Although the coaches don't seem thrilled with yesterday's final round, sounds like the team overall finished a SOLID fall season yesterday.

Buffs Wrap Up Fall Season In Seventh At Nanea

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

KAILUA-KONA, Hawai'i
— Colorado wrapped up the fall portion of the 2024-25 women's golf season with a seventh-place finish at the Nanea Invitational after final round of 12-over-par 304 at the Nanea Golf Club.

The Buffaloes dropped two spots from fifth in the final standings finishing at 19-over 895, matching the program's third-best team score for a 54-hole event on a par 73 course.

Top-ranked Stanford won the Nanea Invitational at 26-under, out-distancing No. 8 Arizona State by nine strokes. No. 6 Texas was the only other team in the red, placing third at 12-under.

It was another windy day in Hawai'i with winds in the 20-25 mile per hour range. Tough pin placements also made for a challenging final round. Colorado made only three birdies on the back nine and had already matched its second round of 7-over through 10 holes. The Buffaloes had a little more success on the front. Five of Colorado's seven birdies on the front came on a four-hole stretch between the third and sixth holes.

"Today we had challenges with trusting our lines and being committing to our decisions," Colorado assistant coach Mia Landegren said. "It just makes it harder when you don't have that trust within yourself. I know the (team) was a little disappointed and I don't think the score is a good reflection of their capabilities and how good they are."

Despite its highest round of the tournament, No. 57 ranked Colorado defeated a pair of top 50 teams in No. 41 Washington (+26) and No. 41 BYU (+28) to finish the fall season 40-26-1 against its competition. The Buffaloes' overall fall season stroke average of 73.70 is the second-best in team history, trailing only last year's 73.60.

"I think we've had a really good fall and I'm very proud of them," Landegren said. "They should be proud of themselves too. To consistently get better after every round that we've seen in the fall I think it really shows they're heading in the right direction, and we are doing the right things."

Freshman Ellen O'Shaughnessy had Colorado's low 54-hole score tying for 20th place at 2-over 221. She shot 76 in the final round, but it was good enough to secure her first-career top 20 finish.
...

Colorado will take the next three months off from competition and will begin its spring season with its first international event in six years. The Buffaloes will travel to Mexico to compete in the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club, hosted by Virginia Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2025.

"I know they're very excited for the spring and what's ahead," Landegren said. "It really shows you the kind of team we have. They're all saying, 'I can't wait to get back to work in Boulder.' Everybody knows exactly what they wan to work on, they're very eager to put the time and dedication during the off season to be fully ready for the spring."
...
"

The team has opened up its spring season at a tourney in Guadalajara. (looks like they're a little over midway through round #1. Assuming the leaderboard isn't having issues or (as is ALWAYS possible) I'm missing something, looks like the Buffs may already be a little behind the 8 ball, as one of their five players isn't showing a score, so I'm GUESSING may have experienced last minute health issue(s)?)

Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season In Mexico

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

BOULDER
— Colorado women's golf begins the spring portion of its season on Friday, riding the momentum of a great fall and winter off season.

The Buffaloes open at the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara Country Club in Guadalajara, Mexico, the program's first international event in six years, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 & Feb. 1.

The 12-team event features a unique format. The standard 54-holes will still be played, but golfers will play 27 holes over the two-day tournament, essentially splitting the second round into the front nine holes on Friday and finishing off the back nine on Saturday before playing the third round.

Colorado is coming off a fall season in which it recorded a 73.70 stroke average, the second-best mark in program history. The Buffaloes were 40-26-1 against its competition and enter the spring ranked No. 54 in the nation, putting them in a great spot to be in the NCAA Tournament conversation.

What made Colorado's fall even more remarkable was an adjustment in leadership on the fly. First-year head coach Madeleine Sheils and her husband Steven Moster welcomed their first child born in September right at the beginning of the season. With Sheils on maternity leave, Mia Landegren in her first collegiate coaching position, took over guiding the Buffaloes through the fall season.

"I observed so much growth at development both on the golf course and off," Sheils said. "They came in with a high level of determination to get better and put in the work and fortunately had Mia as a fantastic guide to help them get better every step of the way.

"Each and every individual took positive steps forward in their own game and I though it showed up in the way they performed as a team as well. And I couldn't be prouder of what a great leader Mia was all fall; she certainly didn't look like it was her first time coaching college golf. She developed great relationships with the players and then really helped them to get better along the way."

Colorado's winter off-season was highlighted by junior Morgan Miller winning her second Jones/Doherty Women's Amateur Championship at Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Miller was the sixth seed after shooting a 75 in the opening round of stroke play then proceeded to win four rounds of match play, defeating Remi Bacardi 2 & 1 for her second title in three years.

Miller wasn't the only Buffalo in action over the winter. Maria Eidhagen Harrouch tied for 58th at the Women's Orlando International Amateur at the Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla., with a 54-hole score of 22-over, 237. Freshman Ellen O'Shaughnessy represented Team Ireland at the Abierto Sudamericano Amateur in Chile, tying for 38th with a 72-hole score of 23-over, 311.

"I was incredibly happy for Morgan because she dealt with a serious injury and surgery last spring and it had truly been more than a year since she's felt all the way herself on the golf course," Sheils said. "For her to have been able to finally put in the work she wanted to her game and see those results pay off under pressure in an amateur event and go home with the win is just really validating. I'm also proud of and Maria for having competed over winter break. I know everyone else was at home practicing and getting ready."

Freshman Sydney Givens will also be looking to build off a fantastic start to her collegiate career. Givens led the Buffaloes last fall with a 72.40 stroke average. She was Colorado's low-scoring golfer in two of five fall events, highlighted by a tie for fifth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate at 5-under, 211.

"I'm really looking forward to having a fun time," Givens said. "That's my biggest goal for the spring; trying to enjoy myself a little more. I can't wait to have this experience with the team going to Mexico."

Sophomore Carolyn Fuller and redshirt freshman Vanessa Ngo will join Miller, Givens and Eidhagen Harrouch for the tournament in Guadalajara. Fuller had a 74.47 stroke average during the fall with five rounds of par or better. Ngo shot 73.67 during the fall season, tying for ninth at the Colonel Wollenberg Ram Classic at 4-under, 212.

The tournament in Guadalajara is just the beginning of what will be a fast start to the spring. After a three-month offseason, the Buffaloes will compete in three tournaments in a four-week span. Additionally, spring is highlighted by events and courses the Buffaloes haven't seen. Along with Guadalajara, Colorado will compete at the Causeway Invitational at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento (Feb. 24-25) and the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the UT Golf Club in Austin (March 17-18).

For the first 27 holes in Guadalajara, the Buffaloes will pair with No. 23 TCU and Georgia. The completion of the second round will begin on Saturday at 7 a.m. MT, with tee times dependent on first-day results.

Buffs Finish Sixth At San Diego State

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

SAN DIEGO, Calif.
— Colorado women's golf rallied from a tough start with a strong finish to take sixth place at the San Diego State Classic which concluded with the third round Tuesday at The Heights Golf Club.

No. 53 ranked Colorado finished the 54-hole tournament at 16-over-par, 880, following a team final round of 5-over. The Buffaloes finished just one stroke short of catching No. 48 BYU for fifth place and were only four shots out of the top three.

Top-ranked Stanford ran away with the team title at 31-under, 833, after a 3-under final round. The Cardinal were the only team to finish the 54-holes under par. No. 35 UNLV took second at 1-over, 865, followed by Georgia at 12-over and Oregon State at 13-over.
...

"We started on the hardest part of the golf course so that was tough getting off to a rocky start, but it sure makes you feel better when you finish strong," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "I'm glad we took advantage of those two par 5s coming in."

Colorado's top three golfers scored just enough to register top 20 finishes. Senior Maria Eidhagen Harrouch was Colorado's low 54-hole scorer, tying for 13th with three others at 2-over, 218, after a final round 74. Freshman Sydney Givens was one-shot back of that group, tying for 17th at 3-over, 219, following a 75 on Tuesday. Junior Morgan Miller recorded her second top 20 finish of the season, tying for 19th at 4-over, 220, aided by a 73 over the closing 18 holes.

"I'm really proud that we had three top 20 finishes," Sheils said. "Overall we still left a lot of shots out there and I think everybody came away feeling they could have played better over the last three rounds, so that is disappointing. But as I told the team, they are getting better every day and making progress. This is one of those weeks it just didn't show up as we wanted on the scorecard."
...

"We know we can finish better than we did today, but if you look back, zoom out and look at the big picture, we've come so far from where we were a year ago," Sheils said. "We're really trying to stay positive and know that we're getting better and better over time. Eventually, the higher finishes and scores are going to come."

Stanford's Meja Ortengren took medalist honors at 15-under, 201, outlasting her teammate Paula Martin Sampedro by eight strokes.

Colorado returns to action Feb. 24-25 at the Causeway Invitational, hosted by UC Davis at the Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif.

Yesterday, the team ended up finishing 3rd at the tourney it competed at in Sacramento. (Outside the final round, looks like this was the best tourney I've noticed as far as either all 5, or at least the minimum 4, on the team were in place to assist the team with solid rounds.)

Top 10 Trio Leads Buffs To Third At Causeway

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

SACRAMENTO, Calif.
— Led by three top 10 individual finishes, Colorado women's golf placed third at the Causeway Invitational which wrapped up with the final round Tuesday at the Del Paso Country Club.

Junior Morgan Miller tied for fourth with BYU's Alexa Udom at 2-under-par 214, after shooting 70 in the final round. Freshman Sydney Givens and sophomore Carolyn Fuller tied four others for ninth overall at 1-over 217. Givens scored a 71 in the final round, vaulting up 12 spots from Monday's second round. Fuller finished with a 73 on Tuesday after consecutive rounds of even-par 72 on Monday.

Colorado was 6-over for the 54-hole event. The Buffaloes were 5-over on Tuesday, their highest of three rounds, but tied for the third-best round in the field and was good enough to move up one spot from Monday, leapfrogging No. 44 UC Davis which dropped back to fourth after an 11-over day.

Oregon State claimed the team title at 11-under, two strokes better than second-place Sacramento State at 9-under.
...

"One of our goals for this tournament was to avoid the big numbers and we did that with only three doubles," Sheils said. "We still have a lot of work to do on our par 5 scoring, but it's great to see the team competing. They've improved a lot, but they know they also left a lot of shots out there."

Oregon State's Kyra Ly went wire-to-wire for the individual title at 15-under 201, after a 70 in the final round, defeating Sacramento State's Caitlin Maurice by six strokes (-9). Sacramento State's Sneha Sharan edged Miller and Udom for third place at 3-under.

Colorado will resume its Spring season in just under three weeks at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, March 17-18, at the UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
