2025 NCAA Tournament Games Thread

Having been surrounded by BYU fans at Thursday’s game against VCU, they are blue clad Nub fans. The smug superiority complex is nauseating. Now that I’ve experienced it first hand, I will a) never cheer for them, and b) be very pissed if/when e lose to them in anything.
I was stunned at how annoying they were the last two years in KC.

On Thursday I had a family of BYU fans to my left and a two buddies who were Nub fans to my right.

I had a different experience and found both groups to be amicable.

I inadvertently antagonized the NU guys. We were talking about B1G hoops in general, and one remarked how a few weeks earlier they were looking at a 8 or 9 seed.

I replied "oh, that's right! You guys really **** the bed at the end of the season!". He rolled with it, basically acknowledged that was right and explained how they had one productive player and once teams figured out to double team him all game, they were toast.

The BYU family was totally fine, and I'll never forget how cool their fans were when Mags and I attended a Wisconsin football game in Provo a few years ago, wearing all red. I've been to maybe a dozen college football games dressed in the visiting team's colors and there's not a close second to how well we were treated.

Medford has always had a weird disdain for Wisconsin even though they’ve made the tournament 22 of the past 25 seasons and won a game in 18 of those 22 seasons. Sweet 16 in ten of those seasons. One of the most consistently good basketball programs of the past 25 years

Are we rooting for the Big 12?

I think I'm ok with that. Win share dollars add up.
Sure! Plus, I don't mind Houston one bit. Their fans are decent, I like Sampson, and they play a great style of ball.

That said, BYU can fvck right off.

This x100000000. When they played in Boulder everyone around us was saying we thought UA and KU fans were the worst, but BYU fans might have overtaken both.

One of my workers is a big Utah fan since he's from and went to school there. You should hear that fvcking guy talk about anything BYU, oh boy, it isn't pleasant. :ROFLMAO:

Houston is such a fun team. My boss had courtside seats for the CU-UH game and let me use them and watching them up close was impressive as hell. Fast, physical and relentless.

Iowa St fans would like a word. They’ve passed UA and KU. ISU vs BYU just depends on what type of annoying you prefer.

So betting all the lower seeds would have had you go 7-25 in the first two rounds and 2/7 were 9 seeds over 8 seeds and one was CSU over Memphis where CSU was actually the betting favorite.

Pretty clear that NIL/Transfers have effectively removed the parity of the first round of the tournament

I guess we'll find out if this is a trend or just a thing that happened this year.

I think that the past few years the mid majors were benefiting a lot from having super seniors due to the covid season not counting towards eligibility. That didn't help the big programs since the starters who make you able to win in those conferences typically only stick around for 1-3 years.

So we had more upsets as mid majors had BYU style rosters with 23-25 year olds matching up against 18-20 year olds.

FYI, last year 11 out of 32 lower seeds won in the first round with 3 of those being 9s over 8s, so there’s some merit to what you’re saying. Main difference were a 13 and 14 seed both winning

Tied at 31 at half.

If you think about it, for UConn the perspective on this game is that to win the tournament you have to beat some top seeds at some point and all this does is move it up a week while moving them onto a 1-seed path. So it's like an Elite 8 game instead of a Rd of 32 game. No big deal since they're not a program that would celebrate a Sweet 16 season as anything notable. They're a Final Four or bust level program.

I’m just talking about wins and losses and the lack of many competitive games or big upsets.
A big part of what has made the tourney the event that it is, and that has made it a can't miss event has been the idea of seeing upsets, of seeing schools from smaller conferences get their moments of glory by beating a school that pays it coach more than the entire basketball budget of the smaller school.

Take that away and you might as well not bother watching the first couple weekends, and then there is no reason to have 68 teams in the tourney.

Yep. Casual fans have their interest decline from the 1st week onward. And it seems like there are more people who, for example, would remember the St. Peter's Elite 8 run the next year than could tell you the teams that made the Final Four that tournament.

My desire for nothing good to ever happen for a Hurley vs my desire for the 14 invite conference to be humiliated results in nothing good happening for Danny Hurley. Okay.
I don’t know why, because I shouldn’t, but I love Danny. Dude cracks me up. He’s a massive prick but embraces it as opposed to Bobby who doesn’t realize he sucks.

That Clayton kid is a baller. Yes, I know he's a first team All American, but I haven't really watched him very much. He hit some fvcking huge shots.

I hope Houston wins the whole damn thing. Not a Texas thing, just they've been trying for a long damn time.
