I think the defense is worse than last year at every position except DT. I think LB is thin, I think DB's are thin and I dont trust the Safeties, now can we add to these positions sure and will that change my outlook, absolutely.
DBs need to be addressed and I’m sure it will be. Our LBs will be better. No doubt in my mind. DL will be much better. 2nd year for Livingston in CFB will be scary for our opponents and will be the biggest factor of all.
I'm high on the front seven. I think the DL is going to control the LOS and get to the QB, while allowing the LBs (who are more athletic than Bentley and NHG, and were more productive than both of them) the room to run.
They will obviously miss Travis and his playmaking, but I think DJ McKinney is a possible first round pick next year with Hodge and Hood rounding out what is likely the best CB trio in the conference. Safety is a question mark, for sure.
Any word on CSC getting an extra year of eligibility?
dont get me wrong im high on the Front seven too, to an extent, I worry about LB being PAPER thin, we have nothing behind Hughes and French and this being football, injuries happen and then we will be exposed down the middle of the field as we have been for the better part of a decade...
this would go a long way quelling my concerns, cause he could fill in across multiple positions including LB(in a pinch)
Behind those two are Wester, Jeremiah Brown, Kylan Salter and Mantrez Walker. I get that Wester is a little undersized, JB is a JAG and the other two are not proven, but I think this room is being slept on. DNVR guys said that Salter is pretty raw and needs development, but his athleticism is off the charts from what they've seen in scrimmages/practices.

Going of your post and @Da Lama, the Defense being in year 2 of Livingston's system should be a real strength. The Buffs will definitely add guys via Spring Portal, but for guys played and even those that might not have played much last year, just being in the same system should be a huge advantage.
At LB, player like Wester, Brown and Walker may not be the most talented but they are D1 talent and will know the D system/assignments. Sometimes defense is about being in the right place and not blowing an assignment is as much as it is about being a special physical specimen. I remember, it think it was Akil Jones (sp) who played next to Landman and while he was not flashy he was steady eddy at the position.
We will not be as deep/experienced in the secondary and TH will be tough to replace, but I like the base of Stoutmire, McKinney and Hodge all in year 2. Plus again we have already added talent and will continue to do so via the Spring portal.

Don't underestimate the second year in Livingston's system.
This team doesn't have the back 7 that the 2016 team has, but I do think it is better in the front 7, especially depth-wise. Having talented depth along your defensive front is massive in what you can do with your defense.

Yeah I think people are forgetting last year was Livingston’s first time calling plays and creating a defense. I would imagine his improvement as a coach will be drastic and he was already damn good.
