2025 Season Expectations

I'd be ok if CU went to the LA Bowl and played UNLV.
What a bizarre title: 5-big-12-teams-missing-out-on-2025-bowl-games

That means 11 B12 teams would go to bowl games.

For reference: Last year, 11 B1G teams went to bowl games and 7 did not.

They were BS before the transfer portal craziness. Now they are absolutely a waste of time.
Unfortunately, I think they do matter in terms of gaining an advantage for making the postseason playoffs based on starting with a higher ranking. And I get that they’ll never go away because they are profitable - it’s something for fans to consume and argue about relative rankings. But there is no real basis for any of the rankings. It’s all bull junk.

Agreed. I wish they would go away because it does influence bias whether the CFP committee wants to admit it or not.

I am prepared to believe we win at least 10 games and knock on the door of the cfp or possibly even sneak in.

I am also prepared to believe in leprachauns, rainbows, UFOs, and the general innate goodness of our fellow humans.

Unless CU was listed number one, then they are gospel. (still waiting on that one).

First Coaches’ Poll is out

Buffs received 12 votes; Ga Tech got 27
I’m honestly surprised we’re received by votes.

Coaches see more in CU than the prognosticators

20-1 we make the playoffs. I've got a fat $25 riding on that

Sports Illustrated 1996

We ended up finishing 10-2, but it was a disappointing season that ended with a win over UW in the Holiday Bowl.

IIRC, we had to vacate the victories due to an ineligible player or some such ****.

It was not a win in the Holiday bowl, it was a complete thrashing of UW. I was at that game, it was not even close--boys against men. Their coach stayed for a couple more years before he was fired in 1998; Skippy bolted Boulder for UW had middling results except for 1 season; Skippy fired and then into the Wilderness with Gilbertson and Willingham. They went 0-12 in 2008. Sark brought them back to minor bowls until he went to USC. Peterson finally got them back in 2017-2018. So 20 years in the wilderness.

CU did similar to ND in the 1994 Fiesta Bowl basically retiring Lou Holtz two years, then they went to the Wilderness per ND standards--Bob Davie and Williamham years.

In 2001, we did the same thing to the Fuskers exposing them 62-36 and that program has not been the same ever since. Also, we laid 65 on the vaunted blackshirts in 2008 even with Hawklove as the coach playing a 5'8" QB!

Be careful, CU has a way of doing this sort of thing....

This is also why the SEC plays their FCS opponent in November instead of September, they get more fake "ranked" conference games early in the season between teams that end up 7-5, but by that time the damage is done and the cycle continues.

LOL.
New QB.
Coaching changes
Head Coach has health issues.
Not sure what’s funny. The first time in Primes coaching career he has both coordinators returning so I’m not sure what coaching changes you’re referring to. The only coaching turnover was DL where they added Peko. I’m also not sure what CP’s health issues have to do with the season outlook. He’s in Boulder and coaching every day. He’s cancer free. He is getting used to his new normal of bladder control.

Sure, new QB and no Travis. DL and OL are worlds better this year. Better overall team.

We’re so good at it we did it to ourselves

And I'm sure learning to deal with the bladder issues is easier than coming back to coaching after losing half a foot and almost a leg.

Prime has dealt with health challenges before.

This is good commentary on Salter from someone who actually took the time to understand what happened over the last couple of years. Basically, he performed at a Heisman level in 2023 for Liberty and then when most of their best players all transferred out, he was left with a bare cupboard in 2024 (I guess he wasn't able to transfer out due to academic issues or something). But, we live in a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately society, and everybody is now sleeping on him, and therefore CU.

Personally I will be very happy with 7-8 wins.

My concern has always been on the D side. I think our O is going to be better.

Salter lost his best weapon for 2024 and they didn’t have anyone to come in and replace him. Hard to put up elite passing numbers when your “best” receiver catches 28 balls (pause) and has 2 tuddys. Nobody was able to separate. He will have weapons a plenty and I personally very much expect 2023 Salter or better. You don’t return as the guy with the most TDs in the entirety of CFB by being mediocre

I don’t remember going on that podcast

I’m with you. I have no idea what to expect before game 1, and I likely won’t know what to expect each week until at least mid-October. That is a fun way to go into a season as a fan.
We have no idea what to expect and the media people who aren't even here know even less. These media polls are a lazy way to generate content and clicks and are meaningless, more so now with the portal in play.

Salter is better, more experienced and proven much more than Dampier and yet the media chodes around the country think Dampier will turn that sh!tshow in SLC into a playoff contender. Make it make sense.

I am confused by that as well. My guess is when they evaluate Dampier, they added OL into consideration.

Utah's OL is pretty good.
