'22 AL WDE Justice Finkley (Signed to Texas)

I had completely forgotten about that guy. Should have come to CU where he would have probably been a day one starter and standout, albeit on a bad team.

It does make me wonder how many great college and pro careers were either ruined or never got off the ground because all the blue chip players decided they needed to play for a handful of brand programs and most ended up riding the bench.

Not in any way saying this is the case here because I simply don't know his situation but what you mention is very common.

One is guys who get stuck behind other blue chips and never get the chance to develop, never get the chance to play enough in key situations to show that they can excel. Another is guys who are good enough to play and contribute but who get stuck behind either guys with a "bigger" name coming in who get an advantage because the school doesn't want to lose them or guys who are roughly even but who don't come from a state or a high school program that the college program wants to maintain the pipeline from.

This stuff is going to get even more common now that a high potential kid who isn't quite as good as an existing guy in the program can force himself onto the field since if he sits (like he really should) he will be in the portal the next time it opens.

This guy has been there long enough and Texas has had enough injuries at his position that the above probably doesn't apply to him, he just hasn't been good enough, but I think it is more common than people want to admit.

He might have came here if someone from CU bothered to pick him up from the airport.

I actually think this will be less common in the new era because guys like him will just transfer earlier on in their careers once they realize they have been recruited over. Transferring with 1 year of eligibility remaining and basically minimal garbage time stats is the worst case scenario.

Agreed, a lot of guys aren't going to be happy sitting on the bench watching guys playing for other teams who aren't as good as they are, or at least as good as they think they are.

Completely anecdotal, but I have watched a fair amount of UT FB over the last two years and I have never seen this kid on the field. FWIW.

got 105 slots to fill, why not? Seems like a kid with a great head on his shoulders.
It depends on what he's looking for. If he just wants to sign on as a depth piece, sure. But there are any number of guys who can do that, and I would think he's looking for playing time his senior year.

I vaguely remember seeing that mentioned. Maybe in Barzil? I wasn't on twitter then. I could easily be mistaken though

Justice Finkley was on an UOV this last weekend in case any one wasn't aware. The staff completely butchered it. Yes, it's an unofficial but you're lying to yourself if you think other schools aren't providing some sort of help/assistance to players when they come. At least for the important players. Finkley and family had no help with hotel scheduling, Dorrell didn't even meet for a meal with him, no fun events (top golf or something similar) were planned for him. This is just one weekend after the person I mentioned above left.

If Dorrell not having a meal with the most important current target on the board doesn't scream indifference, I don't know what does. Dorrell clearly doesn't have a clue on what to prioritize, Lopez and Chandler Dorrell (who by the way has no qualifications other than daddy's coattails) have no idea what to prioritze. And Rick George is obviously fine with this going on or we would see some sort of change. So my "yes" above isn't based on anything other than what I'm writing above. I was willing to give the staff a chance when they were hired. I have 0 faith in them, and I have 0 faith in RG to push them to change.

With those stats he is going to end up at a place like UNLV, Fresno State, Houston, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, Duke... maybe if he's lucky Kentucky / Vanderbilt
