'23 TNFR WDE Khairi Manns (Committed to COLORADO)

Reading his Buffzone profile/interview (a bit between the lines), sounds like he was a bit of a late bloomer/tweener in terms of size as a DL out of HS. Clearly, he was a good athlete, but didn’t really get comfortable with his size and find his love of rushing the QB until college. That’s exactly the kind of kid that we should take with a few of the transfer spots. Two years left to play. Loved that his comments about first meeting HCP were about discipline and standards: HCP told him to stop smacking the gum he was chewing on first moment he met him. It’s a great sign that the kid took that as a good thing.

Was 1st team Sun Belt with 9 sacks this year and just declared for the draft
Crazy how the guy wasn’t a factor and wouldn’t have played at the P4 level but is good at the G5 level and will therefore go to the league. I wonder if more players will start valuing playing time and dominating college over being in a dog fight for PT at P4
I think you have to declare to get a formal draft grade, right? It used to be, you could still play college football as long as you didn’t hire an agent and withdrew by some deadline.

I’m assuming now you would just have to withdraw.

I think Khairi had more potential than we were able to tap, honestly.

Perhaps, but he couldn't beat out Jordan Dominek, McClendon, Alston or Arden Walker. All of those guys were decent players, but every one of our OLB/EDGE players this year were better. I'm just saying that he found the right situation where he could get on the field and he obviously balled out and will get a shot in the league because of it.

My point was that just because guys can't make it at the P4 level doesn't mean they aren't NFL players.

I'm skeptical of that point.

I probably didn't word it correctly.

Manns couldn't get on the field for a 4-8 P4 program, but dropped down a level and became one of the top Sun Belt defensive players and has the potential to get drafted.
