I wonder in these cases (assuming true), do teams ask kids from absurdly wealthy families to voluntarily walk on, so as to open up another scholarship spot? (maybe I'm being naive)
This is generally seen as a sign of disrespect. What can happen is a kid gets a scholarship, signs as that and then quietly gives that up to open up a scholarship elsewhere. But with 85, it's just not really an issue. There's benefits of being on scholarship besides $$$. So the long answer is NO.
