24-25 Coaching Carousel

It's kind of hilarious that some of these coaches preach to their teams about loyalty. Some have some credibility there, but even with the guys who have been in their current job for a decade+ they almost all left somewhere before their contract was up to take their current position.
Love him or hate him, but the way Will Wade handled it was perfect. He was honest with the team, and he said repeatedly how he wasn't going to get upset at his players for doing the same and would even try to help them if he could.

They're going to take a step back next year either way-Clifford's gone. Lake's a senior, and they have three grad transfers (Born, Williams, and Morton). That's before we talk about any portal players because of this.

We'll see who they hire. I'd think they'd promote Farokhmanesh, but no idea. Steve Smiley probably interviews there, too.
They've effectively reloaded in the past without a step back.
I predict Farok will be a very good HC. He has been in the system for a long time and risen up. Still young, very smart. Has player cred.
He will be a very good HC somewhere.

I may become a fan of the Ivy League. Fran hated the portal and NIL. I feel the same way
I love that athletes are going to get a profit share and a piece of things like the EA video games. I love that they can earn a bit if I buy a CU jersey that has their name on it. And I love that they can do an endorsement deal with State Farm or Louis Vitton or Dr. Pepper or whatever.

But I absolutely hate the collectives along with the unlimited transfer rules. It's turned college sports from something where we connected with a kid developing into an adult over 3-5 years into cheering for your team as a brand with whichever pay-to-play mercenaries were put in the team uniforms for that season.

You hit on a good point.

It's great that players get some money for their efforts and don't have to live in poverty to play a sport.

Fact is though that something like 95% of them will never get a pro paycheck playing sports and the majority that do will be out in 3 years or less after mostly making close to league minimums. High draft picks with big contracts are rare.

College is about school and for athletes playing their sport. It is also about transitioning from a teenager under parents wings to a successful independent adult.

In a few years even for the guys who made a lot the NIL money is going to be long gone, and their dreams of making a fortune playing the sport will have faded away.

What kind of education are these kids getting bouncing from school to school, what kind of positive adult influence are they getting when they used to spend a few years with a coach and a staff and a fairly stable team maturing in the college town they selected (or that was the best offer in recruiting.)

We know that a sadly high percentage of pro athletes have burned through their pro money and are living on what they can earn 5 years out of the game. Where will these college athletes be once the system has used them then discarded them.

Discard very much applies when we see the majority of athletes who enter the portal not get a scholarship offer to go someplace else. With the money in the system now and the pressure to win "right now" we are seeing schools that almost always honored a scholarship even if a kid didn't turn out to be a player instead pushing kids out the door.

We are seeing it not just in football and basketball but in all sports mens and womens including the non-revenue sports. Things have changed and while much is for the better not all is.

Kevin Willard to Nova? I'm going to hammer Florida tomorrow.

Wow.

Mean Beavis And Butthead GIF by Paramount+

The line hasn't moved much since the announcement.
In this era, I'm not sure it should. The players know what's going on - hell, half of them are already looking at other places. Guarantee there are people on the Florida staff discussing other jobs and players checking around too.
