Virginia's Tony Bennett digs deeper after retirement news conference: 'I felt I was the one holding them back'
Bennett's retirement ceremony on Friday provided a surreal transitional moment for Virginia — and possibly college basketball

Feels like we need to get this going with Tony Bennett stepping down. This one was a little personal for me. In 2006, I was still trying to find a way to play college ball, and Craig Rasmuson (Tad's predecessor at UNC) and the coach who had given me an opportunity, got fired. A friend of my family was on Wisconsin's 2000 Final Four team (Dick Bennett was the coach of that team), and he reached out to Dick about me. That led to me going up there. Tony was an unreal human-talked about life with the guy for a solid 20 minutes. Same guy you saw handle being the first coach of a #1 seed to lose a first round game in the mens NCAA tournament with an incredible amount of class.
Watched what he said today-and while I think the timing of him stepping away is weird........he was on point with what he said about the state of college athletics. He's a guy I really hope pulls a Saban and takes a media gig. College athletics needs him involved in my view.
