Signed to CU '24 TNFR DT Chidozie Nwankwo

Some YT AI account posted that he is returning to CU after not getting any NFL offers. Assuming this is clickbait, only, but I recall there was some issue about his father claiming he had an extra year of eligibility. I thought we counted it and determined he was definitely done.

Can’t imagine it’s true, but it would be awesome for both CU and this big, big (but apparently not tall enough?) dude.

Agreed. I looked at this earlier in the year, for football, I pretty much think the rule is if a player declared for the draft, they had a rather short period to rescind their declaration--only a few weeks to a month. Maybe things are different, if he did not hire an agent. It was my understanding that he was out of eligibility, but unsure of an injury waiver or JUCO. If he played in JUCO, with the recent court decision coming down, I could see the NFL/NCAA relaxing some rules to be in compliance with that decision. If he can come back, welcome back. I'm sure @Buffnik has a much better understanding of these rules. Injury waivers are all over the place.

I'm surprised that he did not get a close NFL look.

No JUCO. Last year was his 5th season of college football, with 2020 not counting. He started in 6+ games every year he was at Houston. The only thing I can think of is that maybe with the games he missed in September that there is some sort of case that that plus some other games missed due to injury at Houston (not sure there were any) would aggregate to having lost a season and the NCAA finds it easier to grant waivers than risk a lawsuit. Case looks thin, though.

This may be a Miami but this article https://www.si.com/college/colorado...deion-sanders-kardell-thomas-chidozie-nwankwo talks about him not getting drafted or even a camp offer.

His eligibility is finished, don't see how he could play another year if he wanted to. It seems though that he has come back to Boulder to work out as he tries to get a camp invite.

Crazy to think that a guy who played at exactly the same level of performance but was 2-3 inches taller would have been easily drafted in the middle rounds. There were something like 29 interior DL picked in the draft. Some of those players despite better measurables were nowhere near as effective as he was.

This draft year has had some weird twists. The SS fall and this kid, who absolutely should--at the very least--have been invited to a rookie minicamp of all things. That's just a ... what the hell is that about?

NFL coaches and general managers live on group think. They are in constant fear of getting fired and don't want to make the mistake that gets them fired so they go along with everyone else.

The SS thing is hard to figure because his play on the field said he was at worst the second best QB in the draft and he has himself never been associated with the high risk behaviors that can embarrass an organization. It may have been that there was a fear that drafting him also meant that they would have Prime looking over their shoulders.

Beyond that though the league is in love with numbers. Every year we see a WR drafted high who almost dropped more balls than he caught and couldn't run a route if his life depended on it but in shorts and a T-shirt he ran a 4.3something. Same thing with seeing some lineman drafted who is a weight room warrior and looks like a superhero but was average at best on the field.

They also are all looking for the guy that somebody else already has. Whichever QB or D lineman or etc. dominated last year is what they are all looking for this year. For the past how many years have they all been trying to find another Patrick Mahomes taking QBs who make some highlight scramble plays but not much else other than some guy who just plays the position and wins.
