Also, some of the kicks were under a lot of pressure to tie or win - last touchdown in regulation against Baylor, winning FG against ASU last year, etc. Kicking under pressure is tough for manyMata in 2024 (consistent from 2022 & 2023):

Too many of you guys are judging him harshly as a kicker because of how you feel when he kicks instead of by his results. Like bitching about a great free throw shooter because you'd like to see more arc or backspin. It's fvcking ridiculous.
That said, it would be nice to have options and opportunities beyond 45 yards and kickoff touchbacks, so I'm all in favor of a big leg kicker who can focus on a specialized distance role in 2025 and take over all duties in 2026, hoping he'll be as reliable as Mata.
If the new guy can put it in the end zone and has a fair chance on long FG's, this is big.
