Sunnyslope High School and Compton Magic's Rider Portela made a late-night commitment to Colorado on Sunday.

Portela came into the summer as a priority recruit for upper-echelon mid-major programs, but looked like he was on the verge of pushing that recruitment to higher levels at the 3SSB Finals. He finished the grassroots season averaging 10 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 56% from the floor, 39% from behind the arc, and 74% from the free-throw line. Portela debuted in the national 2026 rankings following the summer.

California and South Florida were two new schools to jump into his recruitment. Colorado, which often likes to move more quietly on the recruiting trail, hosted him for an official visit earlier this month and reportedly offered when he was on campus. Now, Portela becomes the first high school player in the class of 2026 to commit to the Buffaloes.

We'll need to work hard to keep him. Prepare yourselves.
Tad usually does with HS recruits, last one that didn’t was Doryan but can’t think of another after they commit.

Also he’s a coaches son, really like this pick up. Love he was D player of the year and how he challenges shots, very repeatable shooting stroke, and has his baseline attack and turn around. Fits the mold of the Sebastian, TDS, wings we’ve had recently.

I really like this commit too, which is why I worry.

Click on MSN link above, for article on how Rohn used to play Caruso pick-up when Caruso in middle school. And CU helped Tx T&M go All-In with Caruso's recruitment.
