Ronnie Bradford - USC DB
Johny Nansen - USC LB
Jeff Grimes - BYU OL
Chris Naoele - former Hawaii OL
Frank Maile - USU DC/LB
CJ Ah You - Vanderbilt DL
Jesse Williams KU DL
Depending on what happens with the staffs at USC, BYU, and Vanderbilt some of these coaches may not be available.
There are a lot of ways that CU could go with scheme. If we want to go with an old school run offense, hiring Grimes would be allsome (he's also the OC at BYU this year).

And CJ Ah You is about as good as we could hope to hire for a DL coach. Great candidate.

As has been mentioned, it will really come down to who the HC is. That guy will get a budget for his assistants and then, hopefully, he will have a Rolodex with a lot of names in it that he can call to come here. It’s fun to talk about guys like Leomiti, but if Jeff Tedford is hired, Leomiti is very likely not on his radar. Whereas he might be if it’s Les Miles who gets the HC job. If it’s Schiano or Lake or somebody we haven’t really talked about much, who knows?

I've been thinking about this a bit lately- I posted elsewhere that one of the real weaknesses since GB was fired has been in-state recruiting. In the eyes of many HS coaches, CU did GB dirty, and he was well-respected since he was a former CO HS coach and he seemed to prioritize in-state recruiting.

Wasn't GB a high school coach in the 80s? I just can't see a lot of his peers still in the coaching ranks and when you look across at the main schools we want to pull kids from (Valor, Mullen, Cherry Creek, Columbine...)

Hawk seemed kind of ambivalent about in-state prospects; he definitely did not emphasize in-state success in my opinion. Then Embree ran recruiting in a manner that was pretty much openly hostile towards HS in Colorado. MM canvased every HS in the state at the beginning of his tenure here, but I haven't seen much emphasis on it from him, either. I can't imagine that there are too many HS coaches in-state that were around the last time CU prioritized recruits from the state.

With how much the population has grown in Colorado, it's imperative that CU get the first pick of kids in-state. I beleive that starts with having guys on staff who HS coaches will listen to. Leomiti is one guy; I think Stitt (mentioned in this thread) is another. I'd give strong consideration to finding room on the staff for those two guys, or John Wristen.
It's inexplicable that Max Borghi is going to school at Washington State.

Lot of good names on the list, but I have to say Ronnie Bradford would not be a good pick. He has been very underwhelming at USC.

I'd like to keep Drake if possible. And maybe Ross Els.

But other than that, give me Texas. Van Malone is still doing nothing right? Jeff Banks would be my dream recruiting hire

Lots of talk about Tedford in the HC threads, but the guy from Fresno State I'd most want is Jamie Christian as RB Coach/ Special Teams. Has also coached WRs and TEs. The reason you hire him is recruiting, though. Absolute assassin on the recruiting trail. Mostly California, but has also been strong in Texas and Louisiana.

Drake is a rising star and worthy of keeping unless there is just an obvious superior choice! Els is also a strong Linebacker coach that could be kept. Chiv is and was great at just WR and Rec Coord, but he seems to be a great candidate for a MWC or AAC HC job so he can build his resume back up.

Well, fun thread for sure but I am going to guess that the next head will have his own tree, connections and an idea of who he wants to bring in. Get the right HC and this will be fun to watch. Get another coach who brings an entire staff from a lower level school and it will be Houston, we have a problem.

Not that I think Els has done badly at all, but he coaches a position which is pretty easily replaceable.

Would be surprised if more than a couple guys are kept on.

Christian makes too much sense to ever actually happen.

I bet even if we hired Tedford, Christian would somehow not come with him.

Speaking of CSU-Pueblo ..... what would be a logical next step for John Wristen? Is an assistant or coordinator be a step back for him or is a SJSU HC type of job his next step ?

Just saw that he's already 56. Maybe CSU-Pueblo is his sweet spot.
CSU head coach after Bobo

I like both Drake and Els. Shadon Brown and Chev (position coach Recruiting coord. Only) too. They’re not irreplaceable, but I’d be fine if they stayed.

The thing I liked about Bradford was his twitter account when I looked a while ago. He seems very energetic, and constantly reaching out to players and recruits.

Chiv not a keeper..all the investment in the islands went bye bye when he took over as the recruiting coordinator, we gave him all the goods for 2016 season and gave Lindgren the bad because of all the previous years, Chiv has no cover this year, can’t hide and he’s exposed for what he is. He couldn’t even call one play to beat Lindgren (I meant Oregon State) in the second half in Boulder. If any assistant remains at CU, it’s Hagan!

Chev is the only reason we’ve had any decent recruiting. He needs to be WR coach and recruiting coordinator Bc he is overwhelmed as an OC. I’d hate to see what our recruiting would have been under the Mac era without him. Say goodbye to any Texas recruits we got including Shenault.

Completely agree- where would the RB position be without Hagan's invaluable coaching and recruiting?

Sorry for not being clearer in my original post- what I meant as that my perception is that there were a lot of CO HS coaches that were upset at how CU handled the situation with GB at the time of his firing. I think part of the reason is that GB had a rapport with them as a former CO HS coach, as well as the fact that in-state recruiting was important to him. Like you, I really doubt anyone who was his coaching peer from his stint as a HS coach is still around.

My larger point is that no staff since then did really anything to mend those fences nor to prioritize in-state recruiting.

I disagree - CLEAN HOUSE

QBs, RBs, WRs, and OCs all look really ****ty behind ****ty OLs.

As a really small anecdotal data point. I knew two high school coaches and talked to them after we hired Hawkins (I can't remember if it was right after we hired him or after a year or two) and neither harbored ill will towards CU. They also both thought that Hawkins would be successful so that should immediately discredit them.
