Pretty sure it was confirmed a couple weeks ago that Katie Bason and Drew Wilson were sticking around.
Ok. Thanks. I wasn't sure since I hadn't seen it anywhere and Wilson didn't tweet/retweet anything directly CU-related between 11/29 and signing day this week (12/19)

Mehhhhhhhhh. Still liked a quote in there, but I'm not buying the idea that coaches are knocking down our doors if this is our cb hire

another uga non-coach? lol

i cant wait until 3-7 years from now when we get to talk (again) about how the ACs weren't good enough (again) and how recruiting (in CA and TX) is a priority for the next staff (again) lmao

During his national signing day press conference on Thursday, Tucker said, "We're going to be in nickel or dime probably 90 percent of the time."

Does this suggest a 3-3-5? Or a 4-2-5?

The OLB (former) of the WDE (latter) better be a mofo.

Probably a little bit of both. Have to be able to do that in the Pac-12 since there are quite a few different offensive systems to go against.

Not exactly an exciting hire. Tillman staying with Georgia through a meaningless bowl game does tell me he's very important to them, though. I'm fine with it. Big boy football means big boy expectations.

Can he recruit is the only question I care about. Summers and Tucker are there for DB coaching so this dude just needs to be a recruiter. We’ll see I guess

Tucker was saying Summers can really coach any position on the defense so there's flexibility. Personally Id like my DB coach to be able to actually coach players but that's just me.
Also, recruiting starts with the Head Coach and its clear its a program priority. If the DB coach makes or breaks the staff, we probably have a ****ty staff

That’s what I was thinking. He’s probably got huge upside On the recruiting side and he will have a lot of assistance from MT and Summers.

Yes they need to be able to coach, but with a HC who was DBs at Georgia and a DC who is also primarily Safeties, it allows them to hire this CB coach with an emphasis on recruiting.

It’s similar to promoting Nate Taye that people discussed in previous years. This guy needs to be a lights out recruiter first and foremost.

Yea that's a pretty good point too. My hope is that the new DB coach came relatively cheap so we can make a splash in another area. If this guy is just a really good coach and less of a stud recruiter I don't see it as a problem. Kind of the opposite of Ambrose and our DBs weren't exactly stellar last year. Plus, it's not like this guy came from a small school. He was around an elite program that is one of the best at recruiting in the nation.
I also like your point you made earlier about recruiting being more of a program vibe. I (obviously) think that culture will be key.

On the flip side, like you and someone else were saying, maybe he's got a ton of potential in the recruiting area. Perhaps im getting overly defensive lol

Well, according to his bio, he was a second round draft pick and played in the NFL for 8 years. I assume that would at least engender some respect from D1 recruits with NFL aspirations. And the fact that he’s been working his way up the coaching ladder after an NFL career is also encouraging, IMO.

All we got to show this guy is a good recruiter is hope. Glad you guys are positive, but unless he's a budding superstar, this hire means bad things

Some of you guys must be real joys to be around on Christmas. Do you talk **** about your presents based upon the wrapping paper and before you even open them? I don’t understand the immediate negative reactions to these hires. Give HCMT the benefit of the doubt and at least allow him to coach a game before you start foretelling death and misery.

Really doesn't surprise me you want the team to fail (y)

Sarcasm: it's a thing, I guess?

I've been posting in this community since Hawkins was hired when I was a student at CU. We've seen a lot of questionable moves on the coaching front since then.

I think hiring Coach Tillman is a boom or bust hire. He made a longer than average living as an NFL DB, which is a major positive in the eyes of recruits who have aspirations to be NFL DBs. Coach Tillman impressed Coach Tucker well enough to be hired for his first big shot as an on field coach.

But, Coach Tillman is not a well-known recruiter. This is a significant concern when he was hired primarily in a major recruiting role. He’ll be on a short leash with a ton to prove. For a guy who was a grinder in the NFL, I don’t believe he’ll fail due to a lack of effort.

Congrats, most people on this board were following CU closely at that time including myself I just didn't have an AB account. Does that mean I don't know anything? it doesn't mean every single hire is an immediate fail, especially when it's an unknown. Tillman also isn't the head coach, he won't make or break the staff.

The reaction to the latest hire here is largely the same as it was for all of the previous hires. People get amped up and convince themselves that we hit a "home run". Bottom line is, in my view, that if things already look dicey before we even have played a game (i.e., we don't have a quarterback recruit and we aren't hiring top notch recruiters even though this was supposed to be a point of emphasis), then that's a bad sign.

There are tons of borderline-hysterical posts here since Tucker was hired about things are going to be different for CU football because things are going to be different on the recruiting front. Then those same people are hemming and hawing about how it's OK that we don't hire guys who necessarily look like they're going to be great recruiters because... because... because...?

It seems to me that there's kind of a nostalgia-driven grinder fetish here about returning to the glory days of running the ball in an antiquated offense. That doesn't really excite me personally because good teams in football right now (at all levels) score a ****load of points, and they do so through the air. However, I guess that Tucker resonates with that kind of fan on these boards. But the bottom line is that there's a hell of a lot of goalpost moving around here already.
