BEAVERS VS CSU

Our game boils down to our defense, probably. I think we all know that. There is no area of our defense that we are sure about, including coaching.

You can't be serious?

The Rams are now like Michigan, USC and Washington because they beat Oregon State??? Please back away from the keyboard slowly and take two Valium. We're going to be just fine next Friday.

I'm serious, and what I said was I got the same feeling. When a team rolls a P5 team, I get nervous playing them.
Wasn't oregon state supposed to be pretty good this year? They played like a mediocre pac-12 team in the second half of last season. I'm hoping they're terrible or played terribly.

Remember when wet lost to Hawaii? That's what happened to them.

Realistically, how many snaps can Edwards play?

Well let me put it this way.

If he's good then he'll shut down csu's below average running game and get hisself plenty of rest by putting them in 2nd and long and/or 3rd and long and then punt and off the field.

If he's not very good(like OSU's NT) then it doesn't matter how many snaps he can play.

OREGON STATE IS FREAKING HORRIBLE....... does that make sense

This.

If it's second and more than 7 or third and more than 4 then Edwards is resting on the sideline. Stop the plays in that situation and the offense is on the field and he has had an extended break.

Also if we can get up by enough points to force the opponent way from running the football then his number of snaps can go way down.

His play is one of the big keys to the game. CSU's center is as good as anyone in the Pac-12. Baptism by fire for Javier to start the season. It's the matchup I'll be keying on.

A lot of possibilities in between very good and not very good.

Great point. One luxury CU had last year was Tupou playing pretty much every down. He wasn't just a first/second down player. Will be interesting to see where he is at in the 4th quarter.

FYI - I am really glad we have a coach that takes this team and program seriously every year, unlike past coaches.

I didn't see a below average running game. OSU obviously isn't that good, but CSU's run game wore them the hell down. I think they are more above average there.

Still have nightmares over that alabama transfer running all over us that one year. Even two years ago we struggled to stop the run against them. Keep in mind that last year against UW we couldn't stop the run either. Their passing game doesn't scare me as much as their running game. They will put up points that's for sure.

For as much as we held that team in check last year, Dawkins still managed to gain 88 on the ground. Their offense is good. CU fans need to stop ignoring that fact.

Yep. Mac said he figured out what the issue was with the last two games and especially the PAC 12 Championship game with our run D. Let's hope that comes to fruition. Should be a fun game.

Two happy thoughts:

First, there is no way in hell that CSU can stop the Buff offense! Not in the 1st quarter and not in the 4th quarter. Points will be scored in bunches.

Second, I kinda like that we have a new Defensive Staff, because right now we know everything that CSU has to call on offense, and they have no idea exactly how we can attack them with blitzes and other coverages with our new defense. How Eliott calls this game will be interesting!

OSU's dline looked fat, slow, out of shape and bothered by the heat and altitude after the first couple drives. And that was before they lost 2 starters to injury.

cswho does look to have an above average running game for a G5 team.

I'm in the same boat as you and most everyone else that thinks our front 7 vs their rushing game is key. Limit that and then turn Coleman, Sparaco and Callier loose on stevens.

But didn't OSU lose two guys off their DL, not that far into the game? I don't know their depth chart, but I remember the announcers saying they were thin to start with. We also need to stay healthy on the DL.

They did and I think it lead to a lot of what we saw there. CSU offense still played well. They did not look good for the first two quarters though outside of the their first TD on the second drive. I didn't get to watch much of the second half. I think the team was watching and will be prepared. Their RB Bodie stuck out to me.

CSU has worked their asses off on the running game since Sparkles got there, and Bobo picked up where Sparkles left off. They run the ball well, and they'll try to run it early and often Friday night.

Having said that, let's pump the brakes on worrying about them because we struggled against UW's running game. You're talking about a G5 team versus a playoff team.

CSU's offense is going to score points, for sure, but if we struggle against their offense the way we struggled in the last 2 games of last year, it's going to be a long year.

Not sure if you were referring to my post, but I was not comparing the two programs. I just said MM mentioned he figured out what was wrong with the last two games in regards to the run game.

CSU couldn't hold UW jock strap.

A bad OSU team commits 5 turnovers leading to 27 points. There's your story. CSU isn't as good as people are making them out to be.

I don't know whom I responded to, and I'm too lazy to look it up.

I agree that CSU couldn't hold UW's jock. Frankly, I don't think they could beat UW even if everything went CSU's way.
