Tante's gonna Tante.
Just trying to help someone out get a full idea of what it would be like staying there for a game. No need to get defensive.

That "full idea" of yours is half-assed.
Yes...it's far from BART. But a taxi can take you to Embarcadero easy enough.
While bagging on the tourists buying chocolate, you kinda missed the part where there is an incredible view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge a few yards away. And there are a bunch of sea food establishments within an easy walk. Plus there is an In-N-Out down a few blocks. It's SFO tourist heaven.
The hotel has an outdoor fire pit above the tourist fray, and is a pleasant place to drink wine, chill out, and completely escape the football environment for the gratuitous SFO tourist thang.
If I were going to the game, I'd be staying at a house that's about 500 yards due East of that building. So yeah, I know it's a long way away. I'm sure there's a BART station somewhere within about a 45 minute drive of HMB. The game is only one day. Gotta do something the rest of the time you're there, right?
If you have a better SFO location for lodging than Fisherman's Wharf, then by all means share.
Why does Liver stay in downtown San Francisco hotels even though he lives in the area?

By the hour rates. Duh.
first, you know i used to live in HMB, right? so i am more than a little familiar with the area.
second, if you going to do the tourist thing, HMB is hardly a jumping off point. golfers like the courses out there and the ritz is very nice for a long weekend of relaxing, but for pure tourist behavior, folks are way better off in the city.
third, there is no nearby bart. you'd have to drive over the hill to a bart station, park, and then go over to the game, and then repeat. that will take a super long time and limit the festivities substantially.
You act as though I don't know any of this.

it depends on what you are looking for. locals like to express disdain for the really touristy areas and fisherman's wharf is the most maligned of the tourist areas. but, it is fun for out-of-towners, for sure.
one possible alternative would be the union square area-- also very touristy, but there are nicer shops, nicer restaurants, and nicer hotels in the vicinity. and, very close to bart, plus the symphony and the opera if you are looking to augment the trip with some culture. in the union square area, there are 2 kimpton hotels-- they are boutique, nice, with good amenities, and usually not hugely expensive. go to the kimpton hotel website and check them out-- one is called the hotel monaco and i can't remember the other one's name. i've stayed at both and enjoyed them.
then why are you trying to send some poor unsuspecting touristas out into the freaking boondocks? there is more livestock than people out there. it is foggy and usually cold. and it is a pain in the ass to get to and from. yet, you want some trusting soul to spend 600 buck a night or more to stay in a hotel that is several hours drive from the game.
sheesh.
Hey - late September in Half Moon Bay is awesome. Yeah, it's foggy and kind of cold. Big deal. They'll probably have some kind of farm festival going on that weekend anyway. The pumpkin festival is probably two or three weeks later. Maybe a festival for artichokes or christmas trees.
Sounds alright. Are your wife and kid available? When I traveled to the Stanford game a few years ago, I stayed in Half Moon Bay.
1. It was a week-long trip.
2. We had a toddler with us (beach and petting zoo farm).
3. It was our anniversary.
4. We rented a car.
If this doesn't sound like the type of trip you're making for the Cal game, staying in Half Moon Bay would be retarded.
Sounds like Cal is a difficult road trip. Nowhere to stay, park or drink near the stadium. You'd think that if they were going to spend $350 million or whatever on that ridiculously-priced renovation, they would have added a hotel & mini convention center to the project to address some of this.
The answer is obvious. Skip the trip to Berkeley and wait until the Buffs play Stanford.
At which point you'll recommend we stay in Santa Cruz?
No. San Simeon and rent Hearst Castle.

Why? To outnumber them in the stadium? Heck, you'll be at 3-14 by then. It won't be any fun no matter what you're grilling that day.
You guys got the bear all riled up! You guys should know better than to tease them about public transport.
