Boise State Football

I like the idea of a Pac-14 that adds Boise State and UNLV.

Part of that, admittedly, is that I can be borderline OCD and don't like the ides of flyover states. I think that the Pac should dominate the region and those are the next 2 to fully cement that. And both have national reputations - Boise State in football and UNLV in basketball - which would enhance conference cache nationally in addition to the regional benefits (those regional benefits include cutting out 2 of the most valuable MWC properties).

Boise and UNLV could be good ones to lock down due to long term growth prospects. I still think we should try to get into Central Time Zone if we can get a hold of some of those schools (which I think is highly unlikely at this point).

No thanks.

So we'll put you in the camp of either expanding with Rice and Tulane or waiting until UC-Davis and UC-San Diego can join the FBS ranks.

Academics be damned! Give me great away game locations. SDSU and UNLV. Heck I'd even take Nevada - love me some Lake Tahoe.

If they want to take a big swing, add Houston and Tulane and make them travel partners, add KU to be our travel partner, and then get SDSU, UNLV or Boise to go into the north with Utah.

Boise, UNLV, BYU and UNM would be nice from a geographical standpoint, but I don’t think any of them, save for maybe BYU, moves the needle much in terms of conference revenue.

If we are betting on the come and expect those schools to *someday* bring in more revenue, that’s a pretty big risk, IMO.

I think there's a very solid argument to be made that the Pac-12 represents the Pacific and Mountain regions of this country, those regions have concentrated populations in certain cities that reflect different aspects of our region's culture, that adding San Diego, Las Vegas, Boise and Albuquerque would fill out the conference's culture completely... and **** what anyone else in any other conference is doing.

Why wouldn't we want their basketball, T&F, Golf and other sports that do so well?

I don't think football-only members is the way to go.
Just to keep travel expenses down for non revenue programs. I can see basketball and football only but the rest of it is a gigantic waste.

I just think the Pac-12 has a personality, and those of BSU and UNLV don't fit. Boise in particular also seems to have nothing to add.

No thanks.

Was surprised to see UW so high on that list.

Yeah, but what are your feelings on seeing Justinian Jessup square off against CU twice a year?

Putting academics aside for the time being:

Any expansion would have to add enough revenue to not reduce the current 12's piece of the pie. They would need to be Accretive in financial terms. No different than a corporate acquisition in my mind. At least in the long haul.

While schools like SDSU, CSU & UNLV theoretically add population to the conference, there's not many viewers currently of those programs. Would they likely eventually bring the fans? Or will they be the basement of the conference and wallow in their dismal drawing power? One could make a case that fans would likely follow a P5 power, and the population is there.

UNM is dilutive and will be for many, many years. The population of NM isn't going to support this.

While Boise is a growing area, the drawing area of Boise (within a few hours drive) has a small population. Since it's been the only game in town, all eyeballs in that region tune in or attend. With all eyeballs in, I question that they would add revenue anytime soon.

And they've been really good. But what if that run is slowly coming to an end as I happen to believe? They are not the team they were 5 years ago and if you project where they are going, it's not what it was.

Chris Petersen was 92-12.
Since then, they are 42-13. Harsin was hired for 2014.

Final coaches poll rankings since 2003:

2003 - 15th
2004 - 16th
2005 - 12th
2006 - 5th
2007 - nr
2008 - 11th
2009 - 4th
2010 - 9th
2011 - 8th
2012 - 18th
2013 - nr
2014 - 16th
2015 - nr
2016 - nr
2017 - 22nd (would not have been ranked had they not been gifted an OT win by CSU, or beat a disinterested Oregon team in their bowl game).

Fresno State, CSU, & San Diego State have all closed that gap considerably. There's not enough evidence to make a conclusion given that Petersen's guys were still the heart and soul of that team thru 2017. But they are clearly not the dominant team that made their name in the 2000-2011 era. The next 2-3 years will be telling.

If they are not hands down a football powerhouse, they will not be included in anyone's conversation of P5 expansion.

Weak competition like Oregon, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, among others. Oh yeah.

KABOOM!!!!

**** you. I mean seriously, **** you -- that was uncalled for.

You attend an FCS school and you're calling VT's 2010 team led by Tyrod Taylor (which went on to win the ACC, FFS) "weak competition"?!?!?! **** you and the Bison you rode in on. Jesus Fvcking H. Christ.

we need to take this elsewhere, what other gawddamn boards do you post on?

Well, when things get dull around here we now know how to get it rolling again.
