Bracketology 2013/2014

Agreed. Haven't been impressed with Nova. The Big East is nowhere near what it used to be. And Wichita State is good. They'd be a 1 seed still if they were in any other conference. They wouldn't be undefeated, but they are a legit 1 seed.
Not so sure about this.

Wichita would not be doing any better than Creighton is doing in the Big East, IMO. Still very solid but not a 1 seed.

I think Witchita is a much better team than Creighton. Creighton basically has McDermott and not much else. Obviously, we will never really know. We will get some idea in the tourney at least. My opinion is swayed in that I think the 1 and 2 seeds this year are not a very strong group. You could also take the Big10 approach and say that just means everyone is good.

They have more than just McDermet, they have two others shooting over 42.6% and they've taken 204 and 129 three point shots in addition to McDermet's 189. They also have a couple damn good inside the arc shooters.

McDermott averages almost 27 ppg. He gets so much attention that it has to leave other people open. I think there are quite a few people here that would love to have Wragge coming off the bench for CU. Not saying Creighton is a bad team just I don't think they are as good a Wichita St.

Agree to disagree, but Wichita is not even close to undefeated if they play in a conference with a pulse. Even the A10, IMO.

Well I'm agreeing with you there (I think). I don't think they would be undefeated either. The problem is that is hard to argue either side, because 3 losses in a better conference still could mean a 1 seed (Villanova this year) Although, with their last loss are probably no longer a 1 seed, actually lost to Crieghton twice. But, maybe by not even close you mean more losses than that even. Like you said, just opinions.

The grind's what makes it so tough. Consider the Pac-12 where you've got a team like USC in 12th place. They've knocked down Xavier, Dayton and Cal this year. That's the easy night on the Pac-12 schedule. USC would have probably finished 2nd in the MVC this season.

Judging by my brackets the past few years I can't claim to be very good at this, so maybe I should listen to you all this year haha.

Hey, I'm not saying that Wichita State isn't going to be in the Regional Final with a shot to win it all. What I'm saying is that if you give them Kansas's schedule I believe they would also have 8 or so losses.

Well if they had Kansas' schedule they would have had to play CU, so that's at least 1 loss

That further proves my point, very good teams have multiple options on offense and that's exactly what you described.

I see it more as guys get wide open looks because of the attention McDermott gets. You take away McDermott and that is not a good team.

And if you take Dinwiddie away from CU...blah blah. Sorry but when you have two other players who have taken 100+ 3 point shots and the worst is hitting 42.6% of them and combine that with a couple other players who shoot 60+% from inside the arc and you're a damn good offensive team.

Difference is CU still is going to make the tournament without Dinwiddie. I don't think Creighton makes the tourney if they lose McDermott early in conference play. Because those 40+% shooters are now not getting the wide open looks McDermott is creating for them.

My suspicion is that Creighton's tourney appearance will be similar to what Gonzaga did when they had Adam Morrison.

We're only two days away from ending all this "bracketology" talk, and will have an actual bracket to talk about. :woot:

A lot of people were also saying we'd struggle to make the tournament when Spencer went down. The point is that it doesn't matter if they didn't have McDermet, they do and that's what matters.

That's pretty much my thoughts, you play with what you have, sometimes things don't go according to plan, you have to find a way. The Buffs made the best of a bad situation. You can't be too disappointed, they did close to as good as you would've hoped given everything.

I must have missed this. We went from a team ranked in the top 20 to a team ranked somewhere in the 30's after Spencer went down. I don't recall anybody saying we'd struggle to make the tournament. With Spencer, this is a team that has a legitimate shot at a sweet 16 appearance. Without him, it'll be much more difficult. I think that's where you may be remembering the "struggle" comments.

We went from a shoe-in into the Tourney and getting a top seed to just trying to find our way into the Tourney. There was a lot of concern at the time it happened whether they'd get in, maybe they wouldn't "struggle." Now we're solidly in, but it wasn't a given for a while.

This may be my passionate disdain for Adam Morrison talking, but I think this Creighton team is loads better than that Gonzaga team, and McDermott is a far better player than that asshole.

This is like Christmas season for basketball fans. We're pretty much done shopping, going to the holiday parties, and buying our goodies for the actual holiday. Sunday will be like the Christmas Eve when you get to open a single gift... followed by the interminable anticipation and wait until you get to see what else you got (next Thursday's tipoff).

I love this so much.

Maybe just a little bit. I'm guessing you don't sport a mustache?

One of my favorite pictures.

I'll tell the story of why I hate him so much, I bet no one cares, but whatever. I was at San Diego while Morrison was at Gonzaga. I had a few classes with our best defensive player, Corey Belser, who probably could've had a couple year NBA career had he not blown his knee out. He played in Europe for 7-8 years. Morrison's last year, when he averaged 28ish points per game, his two lowest scoring games of the year were against USD. Only had like 9 and 12 or something. Corey always shut him down. He also said that Morrison was the biggest bitch, when he'd go in to lock down mode, Morrison would actually start pinching him away from the ball. I saw the marks on Corey's arm where Morrison would pinch him. Total bitch move. Also, that mustache. Not too mention the interviews when they'd ask him about his non basketball passions, he'd always mention how he like to read Marx.

TL;DR version Adam Morrison is a commie whiny bitch.

The interest in Marx began in a high school history class.
"It's interesting how one man could change the latter 20th century, basically, about 150 years earlier," Morrison says. "How the Cold War could have started World War III because of idealism. It's not like I'm a full-blown communist.

Derek Raivio, a three-year teammate with a buzz cut who has lived across a hall from Morrison, heard references to Marx and began to wonder what was going on.
"All this stuff about political leaders, communism, guerilla warfare. I was kind of like, 'What is this guy thinking? What's going through his head?' " Raivio says.
