What is the story behind the uniforms with the black helmets and gold jerseys/pants? Was this a 1-time uniform? or have some other significance?

I'm a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms. The uniforms they wore the National Championship year should be their standard, as should the 1990 season. They are classic and when anyone across the country sees them on a highlight, they instantly know that's Colorado.

I am hopeful CU doesn't try to be like Oregon...not a fan of the gazillion uniform combinations.

I'm liking this guy more and more!

I think this uni combo (using away pants with thick stripe) only made one appearance in 1991 before pants were changed

Thanks for the Joel Steed pic. Fun walk down memory lane. Go T-Birds! Go Buffs!

It was a one-off gimmick of Skippy Neu-weasel, in a game against Baylor. Nothing sticks out about the combo or the game having any special meaning.

I'm with you - gold helmet, black (home) or white (away) jersey, gold pants. That is it.

The 1998 Gold uniform/Black helmet combo was worn in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Folsom Field.
