Build Rick George a Statue (was #fireRickGeorge)

We were on the brink of losing a seat at the table with realignment. It looks like that seat was saved. RG was a member of the team that saved it. Could be dumb luck. But I think we were really close to going into the dustbin of irrelevance. Thank god the team realized the importance of it.

We were definitely close to losing that seat. Now what's the plan for making sure CU is never in that place again?

Contract runs through June 30, 2026...about 15 months away. There were two things that RG needed to do before that day were extending Coach Prime and the west side project. Once that second item gets announced and construction is under way, there's not much else RG needs to do...except show off the latest CU themed Nike sneakers.
I think he would like to be part of the success that should/will come over the next 3-5 years under Prime.

Credit where credit is due. Locking up Prime was a good job by RG.
Also, one of the reasons CU was able to get a conversation going with Coach Prime in the first place was CU’s (and RG’s) commitment to considering and hiring black head coaches. Doing the right thing doesn’t always pay off, but sometimes the right person notices you did.

I could care less about the rest of the AD job responsibilities, frankly. I don’t have to sit in meetings or worry about finances. RG got Coach Prime here. That has changed CU for the better going forward, almost across the board,

Then RG needs to do right by Tad Boyle if RG is going to stick around.

I know it's beating a dead horse but Tad didn't just win but he kept the CU fanbase around while football was in the ****ter.

I'm all for allocating more resources to MBB but this narrative that a decent, not great, basketball team kept "the fanbase" around while football sucked is laughable.

I'm with @The Alabaster Yak

I've attended > 50% of the home MBB games since I moved to CO in 2013. Over that time, I think I've seen the CUEC sold out maybe 6 - 8 times, and turnstile count probably averaging 50-60% of capacity, while noting we're well within the bottom half of Big 12 arenas ranked by size.

I'm also questioning how much of the CU football fanbase is really an "all sports" fanbase, recalling the number of people who left the MBB game vs Bellarmine as soon as Hunter and Sanders and the Heisman Trophy part were over.

It's okay...we are simply not going to agree here.
This isn’t an agree/disagree situation. The football program would be in the exact same position with support and ticket sales right now regardless of what the MBB program did the last 15-20 years. Tad had nothing to do with “keeping the fanbase in tact”

I stayed for the Bellarmine game, I'll have you know. I was even was in the section that won free double doubles from IN-N-Out, so there.

Looking back, I am someone who probably would have checked out of CU sports if it wasn't for the MBB and Tad. Admittedly, I am more of a basketball fan than football, but if we were complete crap for the past 15 years in both sports, I would have probably checked out. Maybe catching a game or two when it was convenient and cheap.

I promise you the football stadium hasn't been sold out for two straight years now because Tad and the MBB program kept the CU fanbase in tact.

That is my point. A mediocre men's basketball program has had nothing to do with the resources that the football program currently has, in terms of ticket sales, donations, fan support, etc. which is what Bison was suggesting as a reason to "do right by Tad".

If people want RG to "do right by Tad" (whatever that means) that's fine, but pretending like Tad was some kind of glue keeping CU fans engaged in the athletic department is silly.

I think where the difference is how you define the CU fanbase. Is it attendance at games? or the core group of people that support the athletic department generally regardless of who the coach is, wins/losses/etc.

if you are just counting attendance, then yea, Tad has nothing to do with that. But if you are talking about long term season ticket holders, those are probably a bit different.
