Some may say it's too early, but it's just the opposite. The RPI for your conference and opportunities for quality wins during the conference season is DECIDED IN NOVEMBER & DECEMBER.

So... cheer for the Pac12. Every game. No matter how much you may hate a conference rival, we need that team winning right now.

So far on opening night, conference is undefeated. Buffs, Utes and Beavs all won. Need Furd, UCLA & USC to close out the night.

I honestly really don't dislike any Pac 12 teams yet. Probably because we are everybody's bitch in football.

Oregon State looks like the typical brand we've seen from Craig Robinson. Capable of putting up some points, but a defense that is so horrendous (let Niagara score 83), it's hard to see them being anything lower than towards the bottom of the middle tier in the Pac.

Utah beat up on Williamette, which is DII. The Utes will be picking up some humiliating OOC losses, mark my word.

Stanford was in a battle with San Francisco for 25 minutes before winning by a dozen. USC had a ho-hum win over Coppin State, but they have a difficult OOC slate that will give us an idea of just how improved they actually are. UCLA took care of business against Indiana State.

but the NCAA committee says they don't use the RPI.

hahaha.

That's such a joke that they even try to say that. They're the ones that had it developed. They pull out RPI summary sheets on each team and project them onto the screen when they are discussing seeding and bubble selections. This is well known. I don't mind that they use RPI. I'm glad that they bring some level of mathematical objectivity into it. But don't ****ing lie to me.

seriously. you know me Nik i hammer that OOC SOS thing like a drum on here for years....but you can't take chances with those a-holes. gotta play people if you are gonna be in the mix. for a team like Colorado....they are looking for a reason to leave us out. you can't make it easy for them with a patsy OOC. better or worse, they have criteria they invented and now deny....but gotta be less than rpi 50.

And they also claim that a team's historical success and tradition don't come into play.

or that media markets don't matter. the pod system is one of the biggest jokes in the sporting Planet Earth. in bill self's first year at Kansas, they are pretty average and like 5-5 maybe 6-4 in their last 10 (another great NCAA mythic stat).....and they get seeded like 6.....but play the first week in Kansas City....and big surprise they make the Sweet 16. hooray!

Don't even get me started on the special treatment that KU or the tar holes get sent every year as far as where they get sent. The NCAA is going to have to make some last-minute changes to the tournament sites this year to accommodate the tar holes because there's no first/second round sites in North Carolina this year. It just won't be fair if they have to travel any farther than Charlotte or Greensboro.

And any guesses as to where KU gets sent for the first 2 rounds this year? (Hint: Kansas City is a first/second round site).

Charlotte and Greensboro, for real. Duke, too. the even deeper level is how the NCAA defines the South and East region to place Duke or Carolina where they need to be as a "top seed" or when not.

Kansas and Kansas City is hilarious....does Mizzou ever get to play in Kemper? or whatever the new KC joint is?

Pull for UW tonight folks.

A tough game against Loyola Maryland Greyhounds.

They were regular season runner-up and MAAC conference tourney champions earning a bid to the dance last year, losing to Ohio St in the second round. They return 4 of 5 starters from last years team.

I am dying to see what this UW squad will look like. Not really sure what to expect, but it's not an easy first game for UW. Albany in two days (easier) followed by Seton Hall and either Ohio St. or Rhode Island next weekend depending... Other non-conference games include CSU lambs, St.Louis, Nevada and at UConn.

We NEED the Pac to do well in OOC this year. All teams.

So far so good for the Pac as of now. No ridiculous slip ups yet (although we'll likely see a few sooner or later)

'Zona struggling vs. Charleston Southern to start the 2nd half...

We absolutely need a win there.

The big one of the day I'm most worried about is Oregon State vs New Mexico State. If the Beavs pull that out it would be a very nice bump.

Wow. Need Arizona to win over charleston southern? Desperation has set in.

Arizona shoots a lot of threes. Still has a nice balance inside when they need it though.

Arizona is a shaky #12 right now, for sure. However, they have a much easier OOC schedule than they usually have. That means they've either got time to figure things out and gel, or they've got a few weeks before getting badly exposed.

Not sure how good New Mexico State is supposed to be this season, but they've had some strong teams in recent years. Oregon State is going to try and make it another shootout. They don't seem to play defense. If this was a road game, they'd be toast.

UW struggling with Loyola. Up 2 at half. Lots of sloppy play...

N'Diaye is much more active this year. If he can do this kind of work on the boards and in the posts, it allows UDub to play small ball everywhere else to energize the offense.

The big thing I'm surprised at is that Romar doesn't have them playing very good perimeter defense. This team does not like to fight through screens right now.

Zona struggled because they were taking what was easy and given to them, 3 point shots. They shot 32 of them, that is more than they shot in any game last year. Tarczewski looked lost, he doesn't understand the pack line D yet, he was constantly late cutting off the penetration in the middle, he was afraid to leave his man and they gave up some easy baskets because of it. Charleston Southern took a bunch of 3's in the first half but they actually looked decent, I am sure CVille knows more about them than I do, but they looked ok as a team. With the size Zona has they should have out rebounded Charleston Southern by a ton. Mark Lyons is a little more shoot-first than they may want him to be, but he took care of the ball, he is a huge pick-up for them at PG.

A tale of two halves.

85-63 Final, UW.

11 TOs first half. Only 1 in the 2nd.

The perimeter D was much improved 2nd half. I think Suggs leaving the first with over 6 minutes left (3 fouls) hurt quite a bit.

Great win for UW and the Pac. Loyola-MD is a team that will likely be dancing this year.

Better performance than I was expecting once the rust was shaken off...
