Colorado vs. Oklahoma State—Nov 29— 10:00 AM—ABC

A few post game observations:

Even though I am repeating what everyone else has been saying: Travis Hunter, WOW, I have never seen anything like it. He is the best player I have ever seen at Folsom, with all due respect to Kordell, Rashan, EB, Westbrook et al. I would say the only reason he isn't Bo Jackson level is he hasn't done it at the pro level...yet.

Okie State is bad. It isn't lack of talent, and oddly, their coaches adjusted at times and answered, particularly on D (see, 2d Q above), but there is not a lot you can do with a team that has checked out and going through the motions. Something is terribly wrong there and I do not see how Okie Lite can keep Gundy. They need a fresh start. Dude had a great run, but he has run his course.

The CU D was dominant. Okie Lite's QB's were horrific and the OL did not come to play.

Terrific day, terrific game to watch, nice to see the Seniors get sent off with style.

i have some OK State extended family. They are without exception wonderful people. Posse Club donors since Pat Jones.

my uncle, Victor, now lives in Phoenix but grew up in the metropolis of Ponca, OK......he says he's given up on Mike G. middle of the season. "I don't know who we can get that is better but Mike has run his course". Vic's brother played DB for OSU back when they called it "Lewis Field".

That says a lot to me. Vic is loyal as the day is long.

I wasn't gonna tell you this, since you've already hitched your wagon, but those outer borough Jewish girls are strivers and won't ever give you a moment's peace. The ones from the Upper West Side are much more comfortable.

i know something about that, too. Upper West side gal for a time.

His buyout is too high. They’ll gut the coaching staff.
T. Boone isn't around anymore to foot the bill.

They probably know that they need to replace Gundy but with everything up in air with conference changes, the payout for past players and the cost of future compensation for players, etc. it's hard to write that check.

There has always been an undercurrent about Gundy's relationship with and attitude towards Black players (and players in general) but as long as they were winning and guys were getting drafted that stuff tends to be easier to tolerate if not ignore.

Now all the sudden those aren't happening and the issue becomes a problem in the locker room and on the recruiting trail.

They will change coordinators, blame and fire a couple assistants who are lead recruiters.

It won't work. Kids will flee out of the program and the transfer portal makes leaving much easier. These days the recruits are all on social media with each other and with the older players from their high schools. The situation inside the program will be on the minds of every recruit who has other options.

End result will be another year of deterioration then they fire Gundy

The way this doesn't happen is if Gundy is just fed up with it and had such a bad experience with this year that he is willing to negotiate a buyout for lower than the contract number. If he offers and they don't work with him then they have a year of a guy who knows he's a lame duck and things go further downhill because he isn't bothering to worry about the future of the program.

Who else travelled to the 2016 Alamo Bowl? After such a huge season that game was definitely a kick in the nuts. Total redemption to destroy them

I went. Watching the OSU's WRs run right by Chido and the other DBs was eye opening. That game was men playing boys, on both sides of the ball. The talent and speed gap was huge. Sweet redemption yesterday.

I looked at this yesterday. I was shocked at how bad OSU looked, however CU also made them look bad. Our D got the memo and came out pants on fire.

Last year, they had early QB issues, but Bowman settled in performing well although he threw a ton of picks. Last year, OSU had 10 wins-- 3 very solid wins against Oklahoma, KSU and KU. They has weird losses: beaten soundly by South Alabama at home; boatraced @UCF (4 to's in 1st half). Beat BYU in 2ot at home. Texas beat them good in the championship game but turnovers really hurt them. The bowl win over A&M was a farce since so many A&M players opted out/were transferring.

OSU's QB problems were amplified this year. Bowman was their guy but was just an awful season. You throw out OOC home games against South Dakota State and Tulsa, Bowman threw only 8 tds with 10 picks, 3 multi pick games--2 early in conference play. They could never get Gordon/running game going consistently.

Another main contributor is their D has been plagued all season. I read somewhere 2 years ago they hired a DC and adopted a 3-3-5 scheme. Maybe they surprised teams last year, and by this year there was enough film where opposing teams figured out how to effectively attack it. I think this might be where Gundy really pointed to evaluating coaching in yesterday's post game presser.

OSU's HS recruiting was a tad down last year and they made meager moves in the portal--brought in 8 guys, lost 10. Not surprising given that they returned so much production, however if they needed Portal guys at certain positions and struck out, that could be part of it. Losing McKinney to CU probably hurt.

Did I read that Gundy's buyout goes up each year?

I get that he's the best coach they've ever had, but that's a terrible contract.

Only if OSU extends the contract. There's some mechanism in his deal so that he always has like 5 years on it if they enact the provision. Doing so causes a small pay increase. Actually sounds like a pretty good contract for both sides.

Agree, good contract for both. Per Gundy's post-game, he still has coaching fire in the belly so retirement is out. Gundy had a horrible season, but too many 10 win seasons to fire him or for a mutual parting in the near future. I may be wrong and he is getting bad press, but if OSU fires him, who wants to follow in those footsteps?

I think OSU goes the way of many P-4's firing AC's and coordinators. Their 2nd year DC is likely gone--he implemented a 3-3-5 scheme many call a junk defense. Also, Gundy and the AD probably need to re-evaluate the program. IDK, but they may need more back end recruiting/transfer portal infrastructure--which showed out for Prime improving CU's transfer portal hauls last season. It is a huge plus that RG, Prime and the CU admin recognized and funded/built this aspect. For some programs, they have been slower to adapt. If OSU puts that into place, I think they would be competitive in the transfer portal--probably top 1/4 of the B12 and very competitive in the conference. Although T-Boone is gone, I do not think NIL is a huge issue (B12 $$$) given that they have ties to Oklahoma oil money, have been a successful program, and with OU in the SEC they may find that a benefit (SEC Nil $$$$$). OU appears to have middling seasons ahead adjusting to the SEC. The Bama win was huge, however they had 5 double-digit losses (3 were 20+ points) in conference.

Anyone watch USC v. Notre Dame? USC's QB played a great game all things considered, however their defense and team just looked tiny with little depth. HS recruits are bolting and they need a portal grand slam HR just for competitive size. Even if they go 7-6, I think they are in trouble without a quick fix. Can't really fire Riley funding the buy-out and effectively throwing away this year's recruiting/TP class away. However, they need to flip their roster to come anywhere close to beating the big dogs in the B1G anytime soon. If Duce portals, Prime may be licking his chops--he is a big receiver with some mad skills.

Unfortunately for OkieState, they don't and won't have the back end NIL money to compete. They were a one donor pony and anyone else will donate to OU instead of OSU. Their fan base was shockingly vocal about wanting Gundy gone during the game on Saturday. I spoke with several different OSU fans and they were unanimous. That said, I think you're right, if they got rid of him, they are done. Back to their bottom feeder days. Course, it is likely to happen anyway, just one way is a slower than the other.
