CSU AD: We "probably built the best stadium in America"

Well if you watch the videos of it's construction you can see it basically was built like a high school stadium. It will be Folsom in 2 area's though. Bathrooms and stadium speakers.

lets not fool ourselves... the OSU game will be a sellout...
inaugurating a new stadium brings out people who normally won't show up -
I'll be more interested in seeing the Nov 18th numbers when San Jose St come to Fart Collins

Kudos to CSU for building a nice little stadium.

Not much imagination in the design of the stadium, as the color would be all gray without the small section of green seats and the word "RAMS" in the middle. I'm sure it's better than Hughes, but it has no class, charm, or history to it and probably never will.

It's funny to read all the comments for something I had a part in. It's a pretty nice stadium, looks good on the inside. It's exactly what CSU needed as a school but it isn't big time college football.

I think it looks like a nice stadium and is probably is at least as nice as any other MWC stadium I've seen personally (note: I haven't seen UNLV, UH, or Fresno's stadium in person, and I don't think Qualcomm really counts), although I was impressed by BSU's stadium. Looks like it will have some good sightlines as well.

I will agree with most people, who are saying it looks a little bland.

Yes, bland is a good word, it's super basic. It's bland but functional, that's all they could afford.

A bit unfortunate that CSU decided they needed to build their stadium in one of the most active construction markets in the history of the state. Contractor markups are through the roof, because they can be.

Yup. Most of the projects we have are astronomical. C-DOT, Google in Boulder, Union Station, 28 story luxury living off champa. Those 4 are roughly 60-70 million and that's for just 1 trade.

Hey did you at least put a few Buff decals in there or steal the ram? Come on man, step it up lol.

Lol well I think I posted some photos awhile back of the kids who broke in to tag their own stadium with "CU SUCKS" on the floors and walls. Shows were in their heads and they're jealous. Other than that I didn't do anything, I'm sorry Buffs nation.

Hope those Beavers gnaw up the stadium and those sheep have to go back to Hughes Stadium!

Two weeks ago I dropped off my daughter at the CO State HS Leadership Conference that is held at CSU every summer. The drop off point was literally across the street from the new "Multi-Purpose Stadium".

First, I give CSU Props for building the thing. It's a quantum leap from Hughes and will benefit their program immensely.

But having said that, my immediate impression was "this is it?" I was on the west side to begin with and the entire west side structure is about 110 yards long and the exterior looks a bit like an office building. My guess is that game day will produce a fun "feel" because it's small and stacked on top of each other. The New Belgium Porch is cool on the North End and the Video Board does seem enormous.

It's a gigantic step for CSU but looks like a Power 5 Conference Stadium cut in half. The entire footprint of the stadium is 17.5 acres so when they tout how they have Power 5 facilities, yes and no. They are quality facilities, just on a small scale. for example, CSU's new weight room is 9,100 square feet. CU's is 14,000. Nuff Said.

Go Buffs.

.

I think it was meant to blend in with the campus and when I drove up to Ft. Collins, I couldn't see the stadium from I-25 and only could see it when I got closer to College.

CSU fans are probably in for a huge surprise at how much better the experience will be for them compared to the past.

And you said 9,000 square feet...let's not forget that their indoor practice facility doesn't have a full football field either.

It will be a big step forward for them, a much better experience. We can laugh about their short IPF and smaller weight room and even their locker room but considering where they came from all of these are huge advances and in the context of their league move them from near the tail end to near the top. In all a huge step forward.

Two concerns for them though. One is that they dream of becoming a P5 program and these facilities were sold as part of that dream. Truthfully though where would these facilities rank in most P5 conferences? Who in PAC12 is behind them in facilities? the B12? the B1G? I would venture very few schools.

Second issue is that even as they are moving ahead they are falling further behind. It took them how long in the dreaming, planning, fund raising, building process to get this far. With what they owe on the stadium it will likely be a long time before they can even think about their next advance, meanwhile all the other schools they are chasing will be advancing further ahead. CU just completed $165 million in facilities improvements and we are already realistically looking to the next step (likely significant modernization of the stadium and of the CEC.)

The big issue is that there is just an insurmountable difference in revenues between the haves and the have nots. G5 schools like CSU simply can't afford to keep up.

CSU already has been paying off the bonds the last several seasons. The question is whether they have tapped into the $50M+ money they had on hand. From what I understand from CSU fans, the school was conservative with their attendance projections for the new stadium and yet still felt comfortable in paying the bonds so the decision was thus made to go ahead and build the stadium. Also Rams appear to have sold out their premium seating which will help defray some of those costs. Just go check out some of the prices those stadium donors have been paying on those things.

https://www.mwcconnection.com/2017/3/13/14910044/mountain-west-new-tv-deal

The Mountain West's media rights deal will expire before the Pac-12's rights deal (three more seasons to go for the MWC). Keep in mind that the MWC beat the Pac to the punch when it came to a conference network but the Mtn was shuttered and now revived for streaming games. This could be an early look at how the Pac-12's next media rights deal could be like. The reality is that the current MWC media rights deal is a horrible one. At the same time, the MWC payments are not that high to begin with and if the MWC decided to do the scheduling, it's possible that the MWC could decide to not have a TV provider for a year to a few years to test the waters. Suppose that gamble pays off...it would be good for the PAC as well.

"CSU's debt-service payments on the stadium started at $6.4 million in 2016 and will increase to nearly $12.2 million 2021 through 2055, a Coloradoan analysis of the three bond issues involved found."

If CSU was short on money for the bond repayment, they are able to dip into that $50M+ fund which is the same idea that CU could do the same thing with some of the $105M raised. Plus by the time the bond repayments go up to $12.2M per year, the MWC will have a new media rights deal in place. I'd check back in a few years to see if CSU is in trouble with the bond repayments.

CSU's financial staffers have a much better idea than the average fan will have when it comes to CSU's revenue streams will be like down the road and that information was passed on to the CSU Regents and they gave the thumbs up for the go ahead on the new stadium.

And yes it is a huge step forward for the Rams that could really make it much easier for the school to pay off the stadium. And google Pat Stryker...she's the Ram with the $$$.
