CSU going bankrupt? lolno

The thing is, CSU is not alone. SDSU, UNLV, UNM, Hawaii, Fresno, Houston, Nevada, UTEP, etc all are in the same boat. None of them want to be left behind. They all think they're going to get a seat on the bus. Problem is, the only two conferences where they could conceivably go to are not interested in the least.
Um no. All of those schools have garbage academics and would NEVER get an invite to the Pac-12.

I don't know if the Pac-12 will ever expand, but if they do there aren't many options in the West for them to snag. CSU is probably their only option of non BCS schools

Now you're going to tell us what the Pac will do? The Pac will take Nevada, UNM, Tulsa, and Rice before CSU.

Academics matter, but not as much as TV sets - of which CSU offers none.

csu their only option ?

New Mexico and UNLV are better choices than the lambs-

Explain to me how it is financially advantageous for the PAC to add CSU. CSU doesn't travel well, even if and this is a huge if they build that new stadium selling it out would put them at or close to the bottom attendancewise in the PAC. With their history I think they have no chance of getting close to regularly selling out a 42,000 seat stadium even at their current ticket prices which are less than half of CU charges and the other PAC schools. CSU adds nothing TV wise, they get lousy ratings when on and CU already brings the Denver TV market.

You can argue all you want about academics, about volleyball, about location or any other fantasy you want to bring into the equation. The simple fact is that in the end it is all about money and under no measure does CSU come close to adding enough revenue to justify getting a piece of the pie. Not happening now, not happening in the future.

Adding CSU would simply take the same pie, and divide it into smaller chunks. Not.Gonna.Happen

Besides that, CU still gets a vote on whether or not to admit those tards :smile2:

A little hard for me to imagine Utah voting for them either.

Don't forget that Larry Scott made a trip to Univ. of Houston when he was looking for backup plans to aTm the first time around.

3rd largest university in the state of Texas, no religious affiliations and a huge television market.

Throw in that they're a Top 300 ARWU, a top tier Carnegie research rating, and a Top 50 American Research Universities.

Also, their new on-campus football stadium will seat up to 60k and will be completed in 2014. They're also going to expand and renovate their basketball arena. Students approved an increase in their student fees to pay for a lot of this.

Finally, their sports programs are a great fit for the Pac-12. 16 national championships in golf, tons of NCAA tourney appearances and some Final Fours in hoops, regular bowl games in football with a Heisman, and both track & field and swimming & diving teams that are among the best in the nation.

If the Pac-12 expands, I really think Houston will be the main target. Possibly along with SMU so that we've got a presence in the Top 10 media markets of Houston and Dallas. To get to 16, I'd prefer UNLV and New Mexico so we don't have flyover states in the conference footprint.

CSU fans think any talk of Houston and/or SMU is crazy. I happen to think they may be the first options that Scott looks at if expansion occurs.

Or Stanford or USC or Cal or, well...ummm.

Lets make this easier by naming P12 schools that MIGHT vote for CSU being added.

IF, and it's a big if...if CSU blackmails Oregon State with nakid pictures involving a Beaver and a Ram and a warehouse full of Bath Salts with Jack Graham and Bob DeCarolis doing unthinkable things to the rotting corpse of Amy Winehouse, then maybe CSU could scare up an ally.

ASU is kind of stupid. But they are hot and into superficial popularity. No way CSU Is cool enough to be a cabana boy at an ASU pool party, let alone successfully sweet talk them into a pact.

Wazzou might feel sorry for CSU and sympathize with the Rams for being the younger brother state school, but pity doesn't equal a vote of support.

The Pac12 members would enjoy a jello wrestling match amongst the dweebs, hicks, retards, stoners, drunks and empty pocketed dreamers that aspire to join the conference. But such a display would purely be for amusement, not admission.

Now go play on the interstate that leads to Big 12 country. I'm pretty sure Kansas State would embrace CSU as a fellow patsy satellite pissboy of Texas & OU.

UNLV Junior College in the Pac-12? LOL NO. Never gonna happen.

That's always been the thought. But they're much stronger in graduate research than they are in undergrad education... and that's what matters. The research partnerships and grant money come from there. They've got to make some commitments to raising their prestige, but they're not that far away. I also think it help that UNLV has opened a satellite campus in Singapore. Larry Scott wants to own the Pacific Rim by broadcasting the Pac-12 Network throughout the region.

Plus, Vegas might already be mostly a Pac-12 market, but adding UNLV would seal the deal. CSU doesn't offer any such thing...

Hey now. CSU has satellite campuses, too.

Yep. The biggest hurdle is probably USC and UCLA. But if it's a choice for them between San Diego State and UNLV, I'm pretty sure they'd choose to avoid a 5th California school and bite the bullet on UNLV.

Mike Bohn is NOT happy with CSU right now.

Irony. Especially since you are, one again, avoiding many many valid and well made points in order to respond to what you think is the weakest argument. Especially telling is your complete avoidance of defense of the points made against CSU. I award you no points, and may god have mercy on your lamb loving soul.

If the PAC does expand (and I hope it doesn't, but whatever), I really want UNM and UNLV. Boost the basketball a bit. I know football is the moneymaker, but adding UNLV (which is going to be a top 10-type team next year, and should stay in the top 25 for a few years until they get hit with sanctions again) and The Pit would be great for PAC-12 basketball.

do tell ..

I suspect that it has to do with the Rocky Mountain Showdown. I believe CSU said and did a lot of things both publicly and privately to get that ridiculous contract for the series in Denver - and now they are out yapping about a new stadium and moving the game. Maybe I'm wrong.

Love the stats and projections that a sales team hurls at ya. Believe me, the guys selling you this vision have an agenda. It is revenue for them and they could give a **** if it if CSewe gets theirs. They will not be around to help you dig out of the **** pile if you do not start winning. You will not hit or even come close to 37K in attendance if you do not start winning. You will not sell 20 year deals on boxes if you do not start winning. Club seats will go unsold. On an on. If coach sparkles does not win in the next two years while you are building your unicorn pen of a stadium, it will be a major disaster. You will be left with an empty on campus version of Hughes, a coach you cannot afford to buy out, a pile of debt you cannot repay and the few boosters you do have will have gone elsewhere with their dollars.

Either way, I think you are ****ed. You will not be winnig in the next two years. Your team is going to suck this year and recruiting has been in the crapper. It is a long term project at a decent football school (which CSewe is not) and you will not have the time based on where your saviour JG is taking you.

Good luck and we will kick your ass this year! See you in September.

shut up bro. you aren't acting owned enough.

No kidding. I can't even remember the ones I posted. Like, I recently asked what there is to do in San Diego. Someone, of course I forgot who, posted a past thread on what to do in San Diego. In the old thread, I'd posted things to do in San Diego! So, not only did I forget what there is to do in San Diego, I forgot that I'd posted on the topic. And just now there was an Alzheimer's commercial on TV.

Just got back from the stadium meeting. The feasibility firms there have done reports on hundreds of new stadiums and 50+ football stadiums.

CSU can expect a MINIMUM of $13million in extra revenue each year due to the stadium and a max of $22million. This comes from naming rights of the stadium, loge boxes, box seats, club seats that aren't at Hughes. An attendance of 37,800. Sounds like sustainable revenue.

They expect the fundraising to be at $212-490million. So yeah, $212million minimum.

Owned. Told you so

Seriously though, their future affects us. If they fail miserably in this stadium venture, the state will have to bail them out and CU's state funding will go from peanuts (which we still desperately need) to nil for eternity. I really think the state legislature is looking for an excuse to cut CU (and other schools) off completely, and they just haven't had the political soundbite to make it happen yet.

Thank goodness our facilities are happening before any of this shakes out. Perhaps slow and steady does win the race.

Tony Frank is saying this to anyone who will listen. I saw him speak at a dinner in February and he said public funding for universities in the state of Colorado will basically be done away with over the next decade.
