Hard to argue against the SEC West thoughS-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C!
yes, college and pros are different.
I get the idea of not wanting to root for your rivals, but I view it as "my love/support for CU (or VT or Wisconsin) is several orders of magnitude greater than my hate/disdain for CSU (or Nebraska or Miami or whoever).
Hard to argue against the SEC West though
I will root for CSU v Florida. Then maybe if BSU is ranked ahead of us. But that's it.
Nebraska - I won't "root" for them, but hope they beat a team that's ranked ahead of us - Ohio State, Mich - but lose all the other **** games they play; Troy, Minnesota, Purdue...
I'll agree, especially this year. I don't think Nebraska LOSING will hurt us, they can lose everything, make Frost look like a tool. But if it comes down to a playoff spot, I gotta say I'd want any team, even if it was Neb, to help us out.****braska can lose every other game they play. Want the shine to wear off the frost era as quickly as possible Dude is a whiny punk.
There's no way Troy has the depth up front to handle Nub's OL or DL. Like them or not, those guys are men.Nebraska should be able to absolutely roll Troy.
That guy's a legitimate talent. It really speaks to Tennessee's dysfunction that they let him go.I watched a condensed replay of the csu game last night. Preston Williams, think that's right, #11, kicked the balls off of Arkansas. They couldn't do anything with him.
Well it’s a complicated problem. There’s real calculus involved in the rise and fall of a single program within the context of Conference standings and both the subjective factors and the algorithms that determine national rankings. But you know...**** Nebraska.I don't understand the mentality of rooting against our own SoS.
No argument here, dude is talented. That guy's a legitimate talent. It really speaks to Tennessee's dysfunction that they let him go.
That's the thing, they didn't need to throw it really. Just about every damn time they ran it, they were getting 10+ just about.Arky lost because they were only able to throw for 138 yards against the pourous lamb defense. If you have a good passing game you will beat csu.
however several times on 3rd down when they needed that one completion they couldn't deliverThat's the thing, they didn't need to throw it really. Just about every damn time they ran it, they were getting 10+ just about.
True, their passing game is no bueno.however several times on 3rd down when they needed that one completion they couldn't deliver
They’re probably going to run into a bit of a buzzsaw this week. UF isn’t used to losing at home to Kentucky unless it’s a basketball game.
I just saw this little snippet that I had completely forgotten about: Tomorrow's game in the Swamp is the final installment of the buyout from Florida to CSU for Jim McElwain. It's also the highest number- by a significant amount- paid to a team for a one-off game. CSU gets $2M, and the previous record was $1.7M.
I have to wonder if both schools would like to have this one back, though?
Florida definitely would; McElwain cost them dearly at the time of the hire ($7M to CSU), and then another $7.5M to get rid of him mid-season last year, and $500K to MSU to hire Mullen at a $1.5M more per year than McElwain.
$7M to CSU was a major windfall (that basically they've used to pay SA stipends for the past few years), but after winning 9 and 10 games under McElwain they've capped out at 6 wins each of the last three years under Bobo in a down period for the MWC, and they will seriously struggle to find 6 wins anywhere on the calendar this year. Would they have been better off with McElwain instead of the $7M?
Yes, he certainly wanted to go, but that was only because Florida made the offer. I'm imagining a scenario where the offer from Florida never materialized, and neither did another P5 offer.Sparkles left of his own volition-so not sure your point on CSU is that relevant....
Didn't Florida essentially pay $3 million? They paid for a one off game ($2 million) which is a little high but nothing crazy for a G5 road trip and then McElwain paid $2 million out of his own pocket to get the hell out of there.I just saw this little snippet that I had completely forgotten about: Tomorrow's game in the Swamp is the final installment of the buyout from Florida to CSU for Jim McElwain. Yeah I said it is a little high. They got paid $1.5 million for each Bama game. Utah State got $1.4 million at MSU, Western Kentucky got $1.35 million at Wisconsin. CSU is a better draw than those two teams but they definitely over paid.$2m is the highest one game guarantee ever according to the link above. I don't remember what we got to go Ohio State in 2011 and Michigan two years ago, but I think it was $1m and change.....last year's highest guarantee was $1.65M (Nubs-Arkansas State)

I'm not sure about McElwain paying $2M of his own to get out of the CSU contract, but please re-read my post on the other point:Didn't Florida essentially pay $3 million? I agreed it was high I just didn't see it as anything crazy in this situation. Essentially Florida paid CSU $3.5 million ($7 million minus the $2 million from McElwain minus $1.5 million for a typical road game for an upper tier MWC team as evident by the USU game this year) to hire McElwain, that is nothing for them. It definitely didn't work out but the money shouldn't concern anyone, especially since they got a steal in the buyout last year with his antics with the death threat.I'm not sure about McElwain paying $2M of his own to get out of the CSU contract, but please re-read my post on the other point:
CSU gets $2M [for the roadie], and the previous record was $1.7M.
In other words, it's really high for a G5 road trip. In comparison, a P5 school (Oregon State) got only $1.7 for travelling to tOSU this year. In other words, it's 17% higher than ANY other team has ever been paid for a one-off game.
Any way you look at it, the cost to Florida to hire McElwain has been tremendous, even if you just look at the tangibles. He was terrible at FLA, but he did well at CSU. is he maybe a good fit for that level of competition?

Wow. Was I ever wrong. The old' Nubs let us beat them twice this year! There's no way Troy has the depth up front to handle Nub's OL or DL. Like them or not, those guys are men.
